Vegetables and fruits –protective factors against mammary
cancerogenesis

Summary
Cancer ranks second only to heart disease as a leading cause of death. Some 20
to 50 percent of total cancers are influenced by diet. Such constituenţi of the diet relate
to cancer in several ways: food and their components may cause cancer, may promote
cancer or may protect against cancer. Fruits and vegetables provide bioactive
compounds, folate and antioxidants that are protective in all the stages of cancer
process. The study estimates fruits and vegetables intake of 223 cases and 211 controls.
The results of the study shows an association between the intake of vegetables and fruits
and the decrease risk of cancer. This results are useful to the development of the
national policy for prevention the breast cancer.
