O
Brasil é sinônimo mundial de florestas, riqueza
ambiental e biodiversidade. Para gerir a gestão
das reservas naturais relacionadas às florestas,
foi criado o SFB (Serviço Florestal Brasileiro),
órgão governamental ligado ao MMA (Ministério do Meio
Ambiente). Garo Batmanian, novo presidente do SFB, tem
longa experiência no setor ambiental e agora é o responsável
por dirigir e planejar as ações do órgão pelos próximos anos.

razil is a global synonym for forests, environmental
wealth, and biodiversity. A government
agency linked to the Ministry of the Environment
(MMA), the Brazilian Forest Service (SFB),
was created to manage the natural reserves related to forests.
Garo Batmanian, the new president of SFB, has long experience
in the Environmental Sector and is now responsible for directing
and planning the Agency’s actions for the years to come. Check

ATIVIDADE/ ACTIVITY:
Bacharel em Biologia pela UFRJ (Universidade Federal do Rio de
Janeiro), tem mestrado em Ecologia da Fauna e Flora pela UNB
(Universidade de Brasília) e é Ph.D. em Ecologia pela University of
Georgia. Anteriormente, trabalhou nos escritórios do Banco Mundial
nos EUA (Estados Unidos da América), Brasil e China, onde coordenou
a implementação da agenda verde e gerenciou o Programa
de Investimento Florestal, o Programa para Florestas e a Parceria
Global para Paisagens Sustentáveis e Resilientes. Foi o primeiro CEO
do WWF-Brasil (World Wide Fund for Nature Brazil) e também é o
fundador do FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) no Brasil.
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the Federal University of Rio de
Janeiro (Ufrj), a Master’s Degree in Ecology of Fauna and Flora from
the University of Brasília (UNB), and a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University
of Georgia. Previously, he worked in the World Bank’s offices
in the United States, Brazil, and China, where he coordinated the
implementation of the Green Agenda and managed the Forest Investment
Program, the Forest Program, and the Global Partnership
for Sustainable and Resilient Landscapes. He was the first Director
of the World Wide Fund for Nature Brazil (WWF-Brasil) and founded
the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) in Brazil.
