MORAL AND NONMORAL USES OF
THE WORD HUMAN
To be a human in a nonmoral sense establishes
nothing one way or another about whether that
being also has full moral standing. Doing so
requires a belief that all who are humans in the
nonmoral sense also possess full moral standing.
The issue in this chapter is how people have
attributed moral standing to individuals and,
further, how they have attributed what we call
full moral standing.
