Pesquisadores na Suécia desenvolveram uma maneira mais ecológica de remover metais pesados, corantes e outros poluentes da água. Os cientistas filtram águas residuais com um material em gel retirado da celulose vegetal e salpicado com pequenos pontos de carbono produzidos de um forno microondas. Os resultados do estudo, conduzido por especialistas do Instituto Real de Tecnologia (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, em inglês), localizado em Estocolmo, em parceria com pesquisadores do Politecnico di Torino, instituição de ensino superior da Itália, foram divulgados na revista científica Sustainable Materials and Technologies. O trabalho consiste no desenvolvimento de uma técnica mais sustentável para a produção de compostos de hidrogel, material comumente estudado para a descontaminação de águas residuais. S cientists in Sweden have developed a greener way to remove heavy metals, dyes, and other pollutants from water. The scientists filter wastewater with a gel material taken from plant cellulose and ‘speckled’ with small carbon particles produced using a microwave oven. The results of the study, conducted by scientists from the Royal Institute of Technology (Kungliga Tekniska högskolans), located in Stockholm, in partnership with scientists from the Polytechnic University of Turin (Politecnico di Torino) in Italy, were published in the scientific journal Sustainable Materials and Technologies. The work consists of developing a more sustainable technique for the production of hydrogel compounds, a material commonly studied for wastewater decontamination.
