ADAO... WORK IN PROGRESS

A Associação para o Desenvolvimento das Artes e Ofícios nasceu em 2015 no espaço que
serviu durante 96 anos, até Dezembro de 2008, como sede da Associação Humanitária
dos Bombeiros Voluntários dos Caminhos de Ferro do Sul e Sueste. Muito perto daquilo
a que chamamos a Estação ou o Terminal ou a Desnivelada.
E a ADAO é também a Estação de sonhos e ideias, o Terminal de vontades e emoções
e a resposta criativa a uma época Desnivelada. Para isso, os amplos espaços e salas de
trabalho que foram as camaratas, oficinas e garagem do quartel, servem agora de berço
para a criatividade de artistas plásticos, arquitetos, músicos, performers e todos os que
“vierem por bem”.
Com alguma frequência, os espaços da ADAO assumem o formato Open Day. E é uma
festa. Nesses dias, desvendam-se e acolhem-se novos sonhos, visões, caminhos, ilusões
e coisas tão sérias como os reencontros. Vindos de todo o lado, em todas as direções e
sentidos, sem tempo, nem idade, nem muros daqueles que às vezes se erguem à volta
das pessoas.
The Association for the Development of Arts and Crafts was born in 2015 in the
headquarters of the Volunteer Firemen Association of the Caminhos de Ferro do Sul e
Sueste. Very close to what we call the Station or the Terminal or the uneven. And ADAO
is also the Station. The Station of dreams and ideas, the Terminal of Wills and Emotions
and the creative response to uneven times.
The large spaces and work rooms that were the sleeping quarters, workshops and garage
of the barracks, now serve as cradle for the creativity of artists, architects, musicians,
performers and all who “come to do good”.
More often than not, ADAO takes the form of an Open Day. And it’s a party. On these
days, new dreams, visions, paths, illusions and things as serious as reunions are unveiled
and welcomed. Coming from everywhere, in all directions and senses, without time, nor
age, nor walls that sometimes stand around people.
