ABSTRACTStudy on the literary reading in education of young people, adults and el<strong>de</strong>rly(EJA). Masters dissertation that aims to reflect on the pedagogical practices in teachingreading in the literary aimed at the social practice. It verifies if the teachers ofPortuguese language value the literary text or have a preference for another kind of text,if we consi<strong>de</strong>r rea<strong>de</strong>rs of texts or not. Search also to investigate which the objective that<strong>de</strong>sires to reach when stimulating the stu<strong>de</strong>nts to read, what they consi<strong>de</strong>r moreimportant in this practical and if they follow what they stablich the State lines of directionof Education in their daily practice. Elect Mikhail Bakhtin for dialogue because of thesocial focus that gives the language. To the light of the interacionist conception ofBakhtin, conducts a qualitative research with <strong>em</strong>phasis on critical and reflectiveobservation about the discourse and practice of teachers from a school of EJA ofCuritiba from material collects by means of questionnaires, interviews and classes ofobservation. In the analysis, among other findings reveal pedagogical practices thathin<strong>de</strong>r and even prevent the formation of the stu<strong>de</strong>nt rea<strong>de</strong>r. Shows that most teachersreading literary works in or<strong>de</strong>r to <strong>de</strong>velop a "taste" for reading and not as socialpractice.Notes the concern in teaching the history of literature rather than literature itself.Shows that the teacher speaks a lot about literature, but, paradoxically, the lessons ofliterature there is no room for the stu<strong>de</strong>nt read. Notes that reading literature that thestu<strong>de</strong>nt does outsi<strong>de</strong> of school is ignored, and, especially, consi<strong>de</strong>red of lesser valuewhen compared to reading the classics and encouraged in the classes indicated.Certifies that, in terms of speech, the teacher encourages the stu<strong>de</strong>nt to read, but theirdaily practice that conflicts with the pretend.Key words: EJA; practice of literary reading; high school.
