ABSTRACTThe present work consisted of the evaluation of the epidemiology of the mainmalocclusions presents in the First Transitory Period and Intertransitory Periodof the mixed dentition. 907 children from 7 to 9 years old of both genders fromcount and state public schools of the city of Maringá, PR, were selected. Thefollowing alterations had been observed: cross bite, horizontal trespass, verticaltrespass, dental crowding, presence of diastemas, anterior open bite, molarrelation, relation of deciduous canine. The total prevalence of malocclusionswas of 96,8%, being that, of the children with bad occlusions, 56.6% presentedmolar relation Class I, 36.8% Class II and 3.6% Class III. The relation ofdeciduous canines basically followed the relation of molar. The dental crowdingwas the most prevalent malocclusion (61%). 16,6% of the children hadpresented some type of crossed bite. The open bite was present in 13,1% of thechildren, and the overbite one in 30,8% of them. With this, one concluded that ithad a high tax of prevalence of malocclusions in the mixed dentition, and thatthis could not be attributed to the age nor to the gender of the participants.Key words: prevalence, epidemiologic studies, mixed dentition, malocclusion.
