ABSTRACTThe teacher's career is a sign of the appreciation of the public teaching. Curitiba,whose Municipal Teaching Net is structured since 1963, was the stage of manypolitical struggle around that subject. In or<strong>de</strong>r to approach it in this paper, first ofall, a historical research was ma<strong>de</strong> insi<strong>de</strong> the limits of the urgency of this study,legislation and national discussions, from Colonial Brazil until our present day.Then, a survey was ma<strong>de</strong> about the major legislations that disciplined the careerfoun<strong>de</strong>d since 1956, year of the first Statute of the Municipal Employee. In thatsurvey a larger attention was given to Statute of Teaching, law 6. 761/85, knownas Blue Statute. That law was approved insi<strong>de</strong> the spirit of nationalre<strong>de</strong>mocratization. The major change was the payment for the biggest habilitation,a right that was taken of by the Lerner administration at 1991. Anotherdistinguished law was that of 10.190/01, Career Planning, still functioning today inthe city. Right after, insi<strong>de</strong> the case study, a profile of the public teachingprofessionals of Curitiba was ma<strong>de</strong>. In this study, the establishments in which theywork and the functions they <strong>de</strong>velop were taken into consi<strong>de</strong>ration. Then, onestarted to work with the signs that could contribute to the teaching career quality.Key Words: teacher career. Teaching professionals. Teaching appreciation.Teaching career legislation.
