In the beginning of the 21st century there is an entrance of asignificant contingent of immigrants of several nationalities, phenomenonwhich could already be verified since the two previous decades.The localization pattern of these groups follows the national tendencies,i.e., the choice of residence and place to work has a preferential incidencein the coastal strip between Setúbal and Viana do Castelo, as well as in theAlgarve coastal area. Lisbon Metropolitan Area is also a highlighted area.However, there are exceptions that have been repeating more frequently,given that a few of these foreigners are starting to seek new territoriesinside the own territory, choosing the inner country as the place of arrival.Vila Viçosa, a county of the inner Portugal, in the region of Alentejo (page173), was an unusual case of reception, once that it has been gettingEastern Europe immigrants, namely Moldavians, in a time whenthe autochthon community and rural depopulation were one of thedominating trademarks of the region. In this thesis it is mainly exploit, in afirst moment, the theoretical aspects related to the migratory processand, in a second moment, the case study of Eastern Europe immigrants inthis council, from their profile to their daily lives and the plans this grouphas for the future.Keywords: Portugal; immigration; Moldavians Immigrants; Alentejo.Fátima Velez de Castro14
