Ohara AugustoLABORATÓRIO DE BIOQUÍMICA DERADICAIS LIVRES E EPRAo longo dos anos, o nosso grupo <strong>de</strong> pesquisatem contribuído para a compreensão da Bioquímica<strong>de</strong> radicais livres e oxidantes explorando, inclusive,as potencialida<strong>de</strong>s da espectroscopia <strong>de</strong> EPR(ressonância paramagnética eletrônica) para <strong>de</strong>tectarradicais livres em sistemas biológicos, células e animaisexperimentais. Os nossos estudos recentescontribuiram para colocar em foco espécies que erampraticamente ignoradas em Biologia até 1990 comoo peroxinitrito, dióxido <strong>de</strong> nitrogênio e anion radicalcarbonato. Presentemente estudamos os papéis<strong>de</strong>ssas espécies em mecanismos microbicidas e emprocessos inflamatórios.SummaryOur research group has contributed to the un<strong>de</strong>rstandingof the Biochemistry of free radicals and oxidantsexploring, among other methodologies, thepotentialities of the EPR specroscopy (electron paramagneticresonance) to <strong>de</strong>tect free radicals in biologicalsystems, cells and whole animals. Our recentstudies have contributed to bring into focus speciesthat were practically ignored in Biology up to the90’s such as peroxynitrite, nitrogen dioxi<strong>de</strong> and thecarbonate radical anion.
