Por exemplo, os fósforos <strong>de</strong> TR(Sm, Eu, Tb, Tm) são usados em iluminação, lasers,fibras ópticas, tubos <strong>de</strong> raios catódicos, etc. Um dosnossos objetivos é estudar as proprieda<strong>de</strong>sfotoluminescentes <strong>de</strong> compostos <strong>de</strong> TR quecomportem como dispositivos molecularesconversores <strong>de</strong> luz (DMCL). Os complexos apresentamalto rendimento quântico tornando-se promissoresna aplicação como marcadores ópticos efluoroimunoensaios. Alem disso, as proprieda<strong>de</strong>seletroluminescentes <strong>de</strong>stes complexos apresentampotencialida<strong>de</strong>s para o <strong>de</strong>senvolvimento <strong>de</strong>dispositivos orgânicos emissores <strong>de</strong> luz (OLEDs).Nanomateriais <strong>de</strong> TR luminescentes também estãosendo preparados pelos métodos: <strong>de</strong> combustão,Pechini, sol-gel, etc.SummaryThe research on the luminescent materials containingtrivalent rare earth ions (RE) has increasedconsi<strong>de</strong>rably in the last three <strong>de</strong>ca<strong>de</strong>s. Major applicationsare in emissive displays and fluorescent lamps.In addition, some X-ray <strong>de</strong>tector systems are basedon luminescent materials as well. The luminescenceof RE complexes have intensively been studied dueto the possible applications as light conversion molecular<strong>de</strong>vices (LCMD). The RE ions have extraordinaryphotophysical properties due to these ionspresent very narrow bands in their emission and absorptionspectra from the compounds in the gas andsolid. We have also studied the electroluminescentproperties of the organic light emiting <strong>de</strong>vices(OLEDs).
