primeira reunião da quadros Casais marca de forma positiva o arranque de 2011. O balanço
da atividade da empresa mãe do Grupo, dos seus departamentos e das empresas que
estão diretamente associadas à atividade da construção civil revela-se determinante
para fazer uma análise cuidada e um levantamento de necessidades para sustentar a estratégia
do Grupo e de todos os negócios para os próximos tempos.
Otimizar recursos, rentabilizar sinergias, comunicar objetivos e partilhar as estratégias gerais
são trunfos que pretendemos utilizar para combater a conjuntura atual e a instabilidade
sentida em todas as regiões do globo.
Sendo a Casais já uma empresa internacional, não sobrevive só com atividade em Portugal.
Tem que continuar a procurar novos países e, mesmo com a estratégia traçada, deve estar
atenta a tudo o que se passa no mundo.
Atualmente, a área internacional necessita de estar muito bem informada e relacionada.

Construction has already started at Sana Albufeira
A
Casais está a construir uma nova unidade
hoteleira no Algarve, mais concretamente
em Albufeira. As obras do Sana Algarve
Hotel, cujo valor de adjudicação de obra é superior
a 15 milhões de euros, já arrancaram e o prazo de
execução previsto para o projeto é de 14 meses.
A empreitada a realizar prevê a construção de um
conjunto turístico, situado em Pinhal de Albufeira, e
abrange, igualmente, a execução dos acabamentos
interiores e exteriores, arranjos exteriores,
arruamentos e infraestruturas.
A nova unidade integrará um hotel com 160
quartos e 26 suites, um aparthotel com tipologias
T0 e T1, um SPA e um centro de reuniões. O
complexo contará com o apoio de algumas
estruturas exteriores, nomeadamente piscinas,
parque infantil e campo polivalente.
Casais is building a new hotel in the Algarve,
in Albufeira. The work at the Sana Algarve
Hotel, whose award value exceeds 15
million Euros, has already begun, and the planned
implementation period for the project is 14 months.
The project being carried out is the
construction of a tourist site, situated in Pinhal
de Albufeira, and it covers the installation of
the interior and exterior finishing, landscaping,
streets, and infrastructures.
The new unit will include a hotel with 160 rooms
and 26 suites, an aparthotel with T0 and T1
typologies, a SPA and a meeting centre. The
complex relies on the support of some exterior
structures, including swimming pools, a children's
playground, and a multipurpose field.

Inaugurações Parque Escolar e
novos projetos de escolas em curso
Openings for Parque Escolar and new school projects in progress
As “novas” escolas Dr. Joaquim de Carvalho,
na Figueira da Foz, e Marques Castilho,
em Águeda foram oficialmente entregues
pelo consórcio Casais Engenharia e Construção/
Eusébios & Filhos numa cerimónia de inauguração
que decorreu no dia 29 de janeiro.
As escolas beneficiaram de empreitadas de
construção e reabilitação inseridas no projeto de
modernização do Parque Escolar, cujos valores
totais são superiores a 13 milhões de euros e 10
milhões de euros, respetivamente.
Inês Lobo assinou o projeto de arquitetura da
Escola da Figueira da Foz que teve um prazo de
execução de 18 meses. A empreitada realizada
teve como principais desafios o limitado prazo de
execução da obra – o que implicou o recurso a
mais mão de obra e a horas extra – para conseguir
conciliar o normal curso dos trabalhos a realizar
nos vários corpos do edifício sem prejudicar e
modificar o normal funcionamento da comunidade
escolar. Durante a execução da obra, destaque
para a inovação da execução da estrutura
metálica da cobertura do Corpo C, utilizando
a técnica stress skin e para o acabamento de
todas as especialidades, uma vez que ficaram
completamente à vista, obrigando à preparação de
uma série de infraestruturas de modo a que todas
ficassem com a geometria e disposição pretendida
pelos projetistas. O mobiliário e a arquitetura
moderna e arrojada, em harmonia com o edificio
existente que foi recuperado, são outros dos
elementos diferenciadores desta empreitada.
O consórcio Casais/Eusébios já iniciou também
as empreitadas de modernização das Escolas de
Castelo de Paiva e de Vale de Cambra.
The "new" Dr. Joaquim de Carvalho and
Marques Castilho schools, in Figueira
da Foz and Águeda, respectively, were
officially handed over by the Casais Engenharia e
Construção/Eusébios & Filhos Consortium in an
inauguration ceremony held on January 29th.
The schools have benefited from the projects of
renovation and construction that were part of
the Parque Escolar modernization project, with a
total value of more than 13 million and 10 million
Euros, respectively.
Inês Lobo developed the Figueira da Foz School
architectural plan, which had an implementation
period of 18 months. The main challenges of
the project were the limited time frame for
implementation of the work – which involved
the use of more labour and overtime work – to
reconcile the normal course of work in various
parts of the building without impeding or
modifying the normal operation of the school
community. During the implementation of the
work, the innovative implementation of the
metallic structure of the roof of Building C stands
out, using the stress skin technique, as does the
finishing of all specializations, since they remain
completely exposed, requiring the preparation of a
series of infrastructures so that they are all within
the geometry and layout that was desired by the
designers. The furniture and the bold and modern
architecture, in harmony with the existing building
that was remodelled, are other elements that
distinguish this endeavour.
The Casais/Eusébios Consortium will soon also
start projects for the modernisation of the Castelo
de Paiva and Vale de Cambra schools.

concluídas e entregues

Decorrente de uma estratégia e aposta da
Casais Engenharia e Construção iniciada
em 2009 para fazer face aos desafios
atuais aproveitando o investimento público para
combater a crise, a constituição e participação no
CMGE – Construtoras Escolares, ACE juntamente
com a Eusébios & Filhos, a A. M. Mesquita e
a Gabriel Couto, originou seis empreitadas
concluídas até ao final de 2009: Aurélia de Sousa
e Carolina Michaelis, no Porto, António Sérgio,
em Vila Nova de Gaia, Rocha Peixoto, na Póvoa
do Varzim, Gonçalves Zarco, em Matosinhos e
Sá de Miranda, em Braga – esta última também
inaugurada oficialmente no sábado, 29 de janeiro.
A Casais Engenharia e Construção possui ainda
mais dois projetos de Centros Escolares em fase
final de construção em Valado dos Frades (Nazaré)
e em Ferreira do Zêzere.

part of Casais Engenharia e Construção
that started in 2009 to face current

A Casais Engenharia e Construção tem em curso a
construção da Unidade de Cuidados Continuados
de Juso, em Cascais. Uma obra cujo valor é de cinco
milhões de euros e tem assinatura do gabinete
Miguel Saraiva & Associados – Arquitetura e
Urbanismo, Lda. O projeto a executar é o de uma
Unidade de Cuidados de Média/Longa duração, a
implementar num edifício já existente, a antiga sede
da Standard Elétrica.
O
consórcio Casais Engenharia e Construção
/Bascol concluiu a nova unidade de
Radioterapia Externa do IPO Porto, a
maior da Península Ibérica, com sete aceleradores
lineares de última geração e dez bunkers, cujo
valor de obra é superior a 12 milhões de euros.
Este é mais um projeto determinante na
área da saúde, com especificidades
muito complexas, à semelhança
de outros em que temos vindo
a participar, como é o caso do
Hospital CUF, por exemplo. De
referir, ainda, que a nova unidade
de radioterapia, a funcionar em
regime de ambulatório, dotará o
IPO do Porto de uma capacidade
acrescida para 17 unidades
de tratamento em simultâneo,
assumindo-se como uma grande
mais-valia no tratamento de doenças
oncológicas.
Os equipamentos de radioterapia externa
e equipamentos de imagiologia são da
responsabilidade da Varian, no entanto, todo
o trabalho de preparação dos espaços foi da
responsabilidade do consórcio empreiteiro.
O projeto de arquitetura desta nova unidade é
assinado pelo gabinete ARIPA, Ilídio Pelicano
Arquitectos, Lda.

Consortium concluded a new external
radiotherapy unit at IPO Porto, the largest
in the Iberian Peninsula, with seven latestgeneration
linear accelerators and ten bunkers,
whose value is more than 12 million Euros. This is
another key project in the health sector,
with special features that are quite
complex, like others in which
we participate, as is the case
of CUF Hospital, for example.
It is notable that the new
radiotherapy unit will provide
the IPO with an increased
capacity for 17 simultaneous
treatment units for outpatients,
greatly increasing opportunity for
treatment of oncological diseases.
External radiotherapy equipment and
imaging equipment are the responsibility of
Varian, however, all the preparation of work
spaces was the responsibility of the Consortium
contractor. The architectural plan for this new unit
was developed by Cabinet ARIPA, Ilídio Pelican
Arquitectos, Lda.
No portfólio de Unidades de Saúde desenvolvidas
pela Casais Engenharia e Construção destacam-se
algumas obras de referência entre elas, a empreitada de
construção do Hospital CUF Porto, concluída em maio
de 2010, que esteve a cargo do consórcio Casais/
Mota Engil. Refira-se que a Casais Engenharia e
Construção foi também responsável pelo Instituto de
Diagnóstico e Tratamento do Norte, em Matosinhos,
uma obra singular e de referência no que respeita ao
nível da tecnologia envolvida.
Casais Engenharia e Construção is currently
building a Continued Care Unit in Juso, in Cascais.
The work, valued at five million Euros, was
developed by the firm Miguel Saravia & Associados
– Arquitetura e Urbanismo, Lda. The project to be
implemented is a medium/long term unit installed
in an existing building, the former headquarters of
Standard Elétrica.
In the health units portfolio developed by Casais
Engenharia e Construção some benchmark works
stand out among them, including the Hospital
CUF Porto construction project, completed in May
2010, which was overseen by the Casais/Mota
Engil Consortium. It should be noted that Casais
Engenharia e Construção was also responsible for
the diagnosis and treatment Institute in Matosinhos,
a singular benchmark work at the level of the
technology involved.

EDP com nova Sede na Invicta
a partir de abril

Localizado ao lado da Casa da Música, o novo
edifício Sede da EDP no Porto vai inaugurar
no dia 13 de abril pronto para alojar todos os
serviços administrativos da empresa e cerca de 700
trabalhadores, possibilitando assim, a libertação
da maior parte dos 27 edifícios que a EDP tem
atualmente na cidade do Porto.
O projeto da autoria do arquiteto Ginestal
Machado e construído pela Casais – Engenharia e
Construção, tem caraterísticas inovadoras na área
energética. Telas de ensombramento das fachadas
com capacidade para captação fotovoltaica, painéis
de aquecimento solar e energia eólica na cobertura
são elementos que vão distinguir o imóvel, numa
ótica de "autossuficiência".
Located next to the Casa da Música, the
EDP's new headquarter building in Porto will
open on April 13th, ready to accommodate
all administrative departments of the company
and about 700 workers, thus making possible
the release of most of the 27 buildings that EDP
currently has in the city of Porto.
The plan is by architect Ginestal Machado and it
was built by Casais – Engenharia e Construção,
it has innovative energy features. It has façade
Shade Screens with the capacity for photovoltaic
capture, solar heating and wind energy panels on
the roof, which are elements that will distinguish
the property from a "self-reliance" perspective.
Com sete pisos acima do solo – seis de escritórios
com 10.000m2, incluindo um auditório, e um de
comércio, com 1.500m 2 -, o edifício tem ainda
dois pisos subterrâneos com estacionamento
para 250 viaturas, espaço para armazéns e zonas
de arquivos.
With seven floors above ground – six for
offices with 10,000 square metres, including an
auditorium, and one for business, with 1,500
square metres -, the building also has two
underground floors with parking for 250 vehicles,
warehouse space, and archive zones.

Onyria Marina Edition Hotel opened
Situado na Quinta da Marinha, em Cascais,
o novo cinco estrelas construído pela
Casais - Engenharia e Construção, integrará
a cadeia Preferred Boutique. O hotel de quatro
pisos disponibiliza 72 quartos e suites, vários
restaurantes piscina interior e exterior, dez salas
de conferência e um centro de Talassoterapia e
Spa. Integra ainda 12 Edition Villas que completam
este projeto da autoria do arquiteto João Paciência.
De referir que o edifício está inserido no campo de
golfe, na zona do antigo pavilhão de caça do rei D.
Carlos. A inauguração do Onyria Marinha Edition
Hotel decorre no dia 1 de abril, às 19h00.
Located in Quinta da Marinha, Cascais, the
new five star built by Casais Engenharia
e Construção, will include the Preferred
Boutique chain. Consisting of four floors, the hotel
offers 72 rooms and suites, several restaurants,
both indoor and outdoor pools, 10 Conference
rooms and a Thalassotherapy Centre and Spa. It
will also include 12 Edition Villas that complete this
project created by architect João Paciência. It is
noteworthy that the building is located in the golf
course in the area of the former hunting lodge of
King Carlos. The opening of the Onyria Marina
Edition Hotel is on April 1st, at 7 p.m.

Transmontana A4-IP4 Vila Real (Parada de
Cunhos) / Quintanilha – Lote 3, a Ponte sobre
a ribeira de Jorjais é o mais recente projecto da
Construcasais – Cofragem e Construção.
Para a execução dos de 370m de tabuleiro será
utilizado o sistema de Carrinhos de Avanço.
Este tipo de cofragem de avanços sucessivos
em consola totalizará cerca de 14.000 m 2 num
universo de 37.500 m 2 que inclui a execução
de pilares com 50m de altura com recurso a
cofragem trepante.
A CNT vê reforçada, desta forma, a sua presença
no mercado das obras especiais.

bridge over the Jorjais river is the latest project by
Construcasais – Cofragem e Construção.
For the implementation of the 370m platform, the
form traveller system will be used. This type of

figura principal do primeiro “Concerto
Mais Pequeno do Mundo” de 2011. O
Monte Prado Hotel & Spa, em Melgaço, foi o palco
escolhido para cantora atuar e apresentar o seu
primeiro álbum.
Este espetáculo exclusivo, disponível apenas
para 20 ouvintes e fãs da artista, decorreu no dia
12 de fevereiro, Este concerto intimista da Rádio
Comercial, premeia os ouvintes mais afinados
também com a possibilidade de jantar com Aurea
e a sua banda e de usufruir de uma noite no hotel,
com pequeno-almoço no dia seguinte.
Nos palcos do “Concerto Mais

A
execução da estrutura de betão armado
do novo bloco educativo pertencente ao
complexo existente Heilig Hart College, em
Halle, Bruxelas, é mais um projeto da Casais Bélgica
em 2011 com um prazo de execução de seis meses.
O projeto é composto por um piso enterrado e seis
acima do nível do solo. O piso enterrado destina-se
para área de arrumos e depósito. No rés do chão está
projetado um pátio de recreio, escritórios e áreas de
serviço. Nos restantes pisos estão projetadas salas
de aula, salas de laboratório e salas multimédia. O
último piso está reservado para um auditório com
capacidade para 300 pessoas. De destacar também
a execução de elevado número de elementos em
betão à vista e betão arquitetónico.
The implementation of the reinforced
concrete structure on the new educational
block belonging to the existing Heilig Hart
College complex in Halle, Brussels, is another
Casais Bélgica project in 2011, with a six month
deadline. The project consists of a basement
and six floors above ground level. The basement
is intended for storage and stock. The ground
floor has a playground, offices, and service
areas. Classrooms, lab rooms and multimedia
rooms are planned on the other floors. The
top floor is reserved for an auditorium with a
capacity of 300 people. Also noteworthy is the
implementation of a large number of structural
and exposed concrete elements.
HEILIG HART COLLEGE
A norte da cidade de Mechelen, surge também
mais um projeto da Casais na região de Flandres.
Trata-se de um edifício com seis pisos e uma
superfície de 6.200m 2 que funcionará como
um memorial e simultaneamente um centro de
documentação sobre o Holocausto e os Direitos
do Homem.
Ainda na região de Flandres, na cidade Willebroek,
a Casais Bélgica vai iniciar a construção do novo
centro administrativo que concentrará todos os
serviços municipais e de segurança social da região
O edifício será construído no antigo espaço da
Escola São José, mais conhecida como a “Escola
dos Irmãos”, e prevê uma garagem subterrânea
com 24 lugares e mais três pisos acima do solo. Na
parte traseira do edifício – em forma de pirâmide –
surgirá um jardim pois a maior parte das coberturas
serão ajardinadas.
North of the city of Mechelen, there is also a
Casais project in the region of Flanders. It is
a building with six floors and a surface area
of 6,200 ft. to serve as a memorial and a
documentation centre for the Holocaust and
human rights.
Also in the region of Flanders, in Willebroek,
Casais Bélgica will start the construction of the
new administrative centre that will concentrate
all municipal and social security services in the
region. The building will be built on the old San José
school grounds, better known as the "School of the
Brothers", and provides a garage with 24 spaces
and three floors above ground. At the rear of the
building – in the shape of pyramid – there is a
garden since most rooftops will be landscaped.

Evaristo Ferreira entrou na Casais em 1994 diretamente
para o projeto da área internacional que arrancou nessa
data na Alemanha. Manobrador, com 43 anos e dois
filhos, é aficionado da fotografia, de música e das novas
tecnologias. Foi um dos primeiros colaboradores a aceitar
o desafio internacional da Casais e adotou a Alemanha
como segunda nação pois “os alemães atinam muito com
o Evaristo!”. Gosta de passear, de conhecer e procurar
lugares novos nos tempos livres e é o organizador oficial
das festas de natal e dos convívios do pessoal. Já trabalhou
para a Casais em mais de uma quinzena de cidades
germânicas com um intervalo de cerca de dois anos na
Bélgica. Bateu recentemente o record pessoal e da Casais
de trabalhos com gruas a grande altura, em Frankfurt.
Afirma que nunca apanhou nenhum susto numa grua, mas
verifica todo o material antes de subir e confessa que tem
uma fotografia da Nossa Senhora do Sameiro na cabine.
Está neste momento em Munique a trabalhar a 45 metros
de altura, mas esteve de férias em Portugal também para
nos deixar fantásticas imagens aéreas das obras e para
partilhar algumas experiências com a CasaisNews.
Evaristo Ferreira joined Casais in 1994 and immediately
began work on the international sector project that
started at that time in Germany. A 43-year-old labourer
with two sons, he is a fan of photography, music, and
new technologies. He was one of the first employees
to accept the international challenge of Casais and
adopted Germany as his second nation because "the
Germans were spot on with Evaristo!”. He likes to take
walks, to find and get to know new places in his free
time, and he is the official organizer of the Christmas
festivities and conviviality. He has worked for Casais
in more than 15 German cities with an interval of about
two years in Belgium. He recently hit a personal and
Casais record for work at great heights in Frankfurt.
He says that he has never been scared on a crane, but
he checks all of the material before climbing up and
confesses that he has a photograph of Nossa Senhora
do Sameiro in the cabin. He is currently in Munich
working at 45 metres, but he was on holiday in Portugal
in order to give us fantastic aerial imagery of the work
and to share some experiences with CasaisNews.

CasaisNews (CN) · De uma forma resumida, descrevanos
o seu percurso e as obras realizadas na Alemanha.
Evaristo Ferreira (EF) · Quando saí para a Alemanha, em
1994, fomos fazer um supermercado, em Dessau. Foi a
nossa primeira obra, com 11 gruas a trabalhar. Eu estive a 75
metros de altura e pegava em 30 toneladas . Já trabalhei em
16 cidades alemãs. A primeira obra em Halle, por exemplo, foi
o Hospital, um edifício enorme que tivemos que concluir em
oito meses. Depois, em Leipzig, executamos as instalações do
Banco Central. Para a construção do cofre, foram necessárias
quatro gruas. Duas obras importantes. Seguiram-se obras em
Hannover e Magdeburg antes de regressar a Halle. Entretanto,
iniciámos a obra de Berlim. Trabalhei também em Rostock,
Lossburg, entre outras cidades.
CN · A Casais tem em Berlim uma obra emblemática…
EF · Exato, a Chancelaria do Governo Alemão. Foi uma
obra impressionante. O nosso pessoal era muito rápido.
Crescemos, crescemos, e passado uns meses, já nos
tinham entregue a totalidade da obra. Tínhamos quatro
gruas a trabalhar, trabalhávamos por turnos e cheguei a
betonar às 23h. Ainda me lembro, no início, de ver o Eng.º
António Araújo com capacete e bandeira na mão a mandar
parar os camiões para entrar o betão na obra!
CN · Quais foram as obras que lhe deixaram mais
recordações?
EF · Fizemos muitas obras grandes, mas destaco a
Chancelaria do Governo Alemão. Também recordo, as
piscinas de Rostock, o cinema – onde trabalhei a 90
metros de altura – e o banco central, ambos em Leipzig,
e a T185 em Frankfurt, claro. Foi nesta obra que atingi o
record pessoal de trabalhos com grua a grande altura e
marcamos o novo record da Casais também. A equipa
de manobradores da obra foi a primeira a trabalhar a 189
metros de altura! Demorei 14 minutos para fazer descida
da grua sem elevador.
CN · Quais os cuidados diários e hábitos que aconselha?
EF · Por hábito, gosto de trazer tudo à mão. Estou
sempre preparado para tudo. Alguém pede um alicate
ou uma lâmpada e eu tenho sempre tudo! Para mim,
se o trabalho inicia às 6h00, é a essa hora que tenho
que estar em cima da máquina. Antes disso, tenho que
verificar todo o material e o estado da grua, subir e
preparar-me para começar a trabalhar. Um gruista tem
que estar sempre atento ao que se passa na obra e às
necessidades dos colegas. Se eu estiver à espera que
me chamem, ainda vou demorar tempo a poder começar
a trabalhar no local. Portanto, lá em cima, estou sempre
a acompanhar os trabalhos no solo e consigo antecipar
onde vou ser preciso e começar logo a trabalhar nesse
sentido. Só assim, conseguimos executar obras com
prazos apertados e ajudar a empresa a cumprir os
compromissos. Gosto de fazer o meu trabalho impecável:
é bom para mim, e é bom para a empresa! Seja quem for
que entre na obra, eu faço sempre a mesma coisa, mesmo
que seja o patrão ou o “homem da Segurança”!
A Segurança é muito importante, não só para o gruísta, mas
em especial para quem precisa dela…, tento sempre ter o
máximo cuidado possível, gosto de fazer o meu trabalho
bem feito, os alemães reparam muito nisso! E rapidamente
em cada obra que passa acabamos por ser reconhecidos
pelos nossos clientes.
CN · Esta obra de Frankfurt que terminou recentemente
foi bastante complexa.
EF · É verdade. Para mim, os trabalhos começaram no dia
28 de maio de 2009 e concluíram no dia 28 de fevereiro de
2011. Nesta obra, tive um pilar complicado com cerca de 9
toneladas. A grua teve que ser preparada e tivemos que
fazer tudo com muito cuidado. Durante a obra, tínhamos
sempre duas gruas (a grua dois estava batizada de
Evaristo!) e chegamos a ser quatro gruistas a trabalhar por
turnos todos os dias. Entretanto, ficamos três: eu, o Costa e
o Fernando. Enquanto dois estavam a trabalhar lá em cima,
o terceiro estava a orientar e a coordenar os trabalhos cá
em baixo e a preparar tudo com antecipação para quando
fosse hora de mudar de turno.
CN · Qual é a sua grua preferida? E a mais difícil que já
manobrou?
EF · Gosto de trabalhar com a Liebherr 256HC. É uma
máquina. A grua mais difícil foi uma Peiner, em Dessau, em
1994, porque tinha de manobrar com o pé.
CN · Se tivesse que convencer alguém a trabalhar com a
Casais, como o fazia?
EF · A Casais honra os compromissos e compensa o
esforço e dedicação. Quando estamos fora do nosso
país, disponibiliza todas as condições essenciais para
nos sentirmos bem.
CasaisNews (CN) · In summary form, describe your
career and work done in Germany.
Evaristo Ferreira (EF) · When I left for Germany in 1994, we
went to build a supermarket in Dessau. It was our first job,
with 11 working cranes. I've been at 75 metres and I’ve lifted
30 tons. I have worked in 16 German cities. The first job in
Halle, for example, was the Hospital, a huge building that had
to be completed in eight months. Later, at Leipzig, we built the
premises of the Central Bank. To build the vault, four cranes
were required. Two important jobs. Works in Hannover and
Magdeburg followed before returning to Halle. Meanwhile, we
have begun the work in Berlin. I’ve also worked in Rostock,
Lossburg, among other cities.
CN · Casais has a flagship project in Berlin …
EF · That’s right, the Chancellery of the German
Government. It was an impressive job. Our crew was very
fast. We were growing, growing, and after a few months, we
had completed all the work. We had four working cranes,
we worked in shifts and we were even applying concrete at
11 p.m. I still remember, at the beginning, seeing Mr. António
Araújo with his helmet and flag in hand to stop lorries so
the concrete could enter the work site!
CN · Which were the jobs that have left the most
memories?
EF · Many jobs were great, but I would emphasize the
Chancellery of the German Government. I also remember,
the Rostock pools, the cinema – where I worked at 90
metres – and the central bank, both in Leipzig and the T185
in Frankfurt, of course. It was on this job that I reached my
personal record in jobs with a crane at high altitude and we
also set the Casais’ new record as well. This job’s team of
operators was the first ever to have worked at 189 metres
in altitude! It took me 14 minutes to make the descent off
the crane without an elevator.
CN · What do you advise for daily care and habits?
EF · As a habit, I like to have everything at hand. I'm always
ready for anything. Someone asks for a pair of pliers or
a light bulb and I always have everything! For me, if the
work starts at 6 am, that is when I have to be on top of the
machine. Before that, I have to verify all the material and
condition of the crane, climb up, and prepare myself to get
to work. A crane operator always has to be aware of what
is happening at work and the needs of my colleagues. If I'm
waiting for them to call me, I will still take time to be able to
start work on site. So up there, I always follow the work on
the ground and anticipate precisely where I will be needed
and start working towards this. Only this way, can we finish
jobs with tight deadlines and help the organisation meet its
commitments. I like to do my work flawlessly: it is good for
me, and it is good for the company! Whoever comes onto
the worksite, I always do the same thing, whether it’s the
boss or the "security man"! Safety is very important not only
for the crane operators, but especially for those who need
it ... I always try to have the greatest possible care, I like to do
my job well, the Germans give that great importance! And in
each work done, we end up being recognized by our clients.
CN · The Frankfurt job which ended recently was quite
complex.
EF · That’s true. For me, work began on May 28th 2009
and concluded on February 28th2011. This work included
a complicated pillar of about 9 tonnes. The crane had to be
prepared and we had to do everything very carefully. During
the work, we always had two cranes (crane two was named
Evaristo!) and there were even four crane operators working
shifts every day. Meanwhile, there were three of us: Costa,
Fernando and I. While two of us were working up there,
the third was to guide and coordinate the work here on the
ground and prepare everything in anticipation for when it
was time for a change of shift.
CN · What is your preferred crane? And the most
difficult one you have ever operated?
EF · I like working with Liebherr 256HC. It is a machine.
The most difficult crane was a Peiner, in Dessau, in 1994,
because it had to be operated by foot.
CN · If you had to convince someone to work with
Casais, how would you do it?
EF · Casais honours its commitments and rewards effort
and dedication. When we are out of our country, they
provide all the necessary conditions for us to feel fine.

A Carpincasais, em parceria com outros agentes,

O processo passou por várias fases de testes:
estanquidade à água, permeabilidade ao ar,
resistência à ação do vento; transmissão térmica,
isolamento acústico, capacidade de carga dos
dispositivos de segurança e susbstâncias
periogosas, entre outras. Os acessórios escolhidos
como o vidro, as ferragens e os vedantes
aprimoraram as performances do perfil na
obtenção destes resultados.

solution to the market.
The new product has obtained the maximum
values stipulated by the NP EN ISO 14351-
1: 2008. The process went through several
testing phases: watertightness, air permeability,
resistance to wind force; thermal transmission,
acoustic insulation, and loading capacity of
the safety devices and dangerous substances,
among others. The accessories chosen, such
as glass, the fittings and the sealants, have
enhanced the performances of the profile in
obtaining these results.

trusting the reliability of wood, now have a fully

Este foi um projeto integralmente desenvolvido pelo
departamento de conceção e desenvolvimento
da Carpincasais. As fases iniciais consistiram na
pesquisa das melhores matérias-primas para
a constituição da porta, desenvolvimento de
pormenores construtivos e na realização de vários
ensaios a nível interno. Com o projeto definido,
seguiu-se a execução do protótipo que foi ensaiado
num laboratório nacional. Os últimos ensaios foram
realizados em laboratórios internacionais, uma
vez que em Portugal não existem laboratórios
acreditados para o efeito.
Mais uma vez, a Carpincasais foi a primeira
empresa a conceber uma porta direcionada para
os gabinetes de arquitetura e projeto, devido
à polivalência das medidas e das diversas
configurações. Desta forma a Carpincasais, alcança
um mercado novo e de valor considerável no setor
da construção – portas corta-fogo, deixando de
estar dependente dos prazos de entrega para este
tipo de produto, controlando a produção em função
das necessidades dos clientes.
Na verdade, como fabricante a Carpincasais
pretende responder de forma rápida e eficaz
às exigências do mercado, quer nos prazos de
entrega, quer na relação qualidade/preço dos
produtos. Oferece produtos testados segundo as
normas europeias e que obedecem à legislação
comunitária em vigor.
This was a project that was fully developed by
the Department of Design and Development
of Carpincasais. The initial stages consisted of
the best raw materials for the formation of the
door, the development of constructive details
and various internal tests. Once the project was
defined, the implementation of the prototype
followed, which was tested in a laboratory.
The last tests were carried out in international
laboratories, since in Portugal there are no
laboratories for this purpose.
Once again, Carpincasais was the first company to
design a door targeted at architectural and design
firms, due to the versatility of the measures and
the various settings. In this way the Carpincasais,
reaches a new market of considerable value in
the construction sector - fire doors. No longer
being dependent on the delivery time for this type
of product, controlling the production based on
customer needs.
Indeed, as a manufacturer Carpincasais wants
to respond quickly and effectively to market
requirements, both in the delivery and in the quality/
price ratio of its products. Offering products tested
according to European standards and that comply
with Community legislation in force.

Casa, na Exponor, fez -se de 25 a 28/11/2010 e
com o propósito de dar a conhecer aos gabinetes de
arquitetura os novos produtos. Mais recentemente,
a empresa foi um dos expositores da Domotex, em
Hannover. A participação neste evento encontra-se
inserida no plano estratégico da empresa para a
divulgação dos seus produtos, pois é uma excelente
porta de acesso aos mercados internacionais e a
oportunidades além fronteiras.
A Carpincasais apresenta-se como uma das
empresas com mais capacidade de fabrico
e instalação no segmento da carpintaria,
conseguindo desenvolver as soluções mais
especiais com a perícia e o pormenor de um
artesão. Nos últimos anos, a empresa tem vindo a
apostar na estrutura e operações, tendo em 2009
aberto dois novos espaços físicos para o apoio

2009 they opened two new physical locations
for the support of work sites in Lisbon and the
Algarve and they obtained a higher level of
construction permit.
2007 foi o ano de internacionalização iniciada em
Gibraltar e alargada no ano seguinte a Angola.
Seguiu-se Marrocos em 2009 com a empreitada de
carpintarias no Four Seasons Resort Marrakech e
Bélgica em 2010. A aposta internacional continua a
fazer parte da estratégia de crescimento e objetivos
da empresa para os próximos anos.
2007 was a year of internationalization which began
in Gibraltar and expanded the following year into
Angola. Morocco followed in 2009 with the joineries
project at the Four Seasons Resort in Marrakech and
then Belgium in 2010. International ventures continue
to be part of the growth strategy and the company's
objectives for the coming years.

Workshop on Energetically Efficient Solutions in public buildings
and public lighting
Luís Vilela Pinto, responsável pela Casais Energia, foi
o orador convidado da Agência Municipal de Energia
de Gaia – Energaia - para apresentação do conceito
ESCO/ESE (Empresas de serviços de energia) na
perspetiva do interesse e aplicabilidade, entre outros,
no quadro do desenvolvimento de projetos de
eficiência energética em entidades e equipamentos
afetos à prestação de serviços públicos.
A iniciativa decorreu no auditório Inova.Gaia, em 14
de dezembro 2010, com organização da Energaia e
enquadramento no âmbito das atividades ao nível
nacional da RePECEE (Rede de Promoção e Eficiência
no Consumo de Energia Elétrica), estrutura que conta
com o apoio da Entidade Reguladora dos Serviços
Energéticos (ERSE).
A apresentação intitulada “Eficiência energética
e ESCO: uma oportunidade” foi direccionada para
a valorização do interesse e oportunidade da
intervenção das entidades públicas no domínio da
eficiência energética, nomeadamente em edifícios e
equipamentos públicos, num quadro de contratação
pública da prestação de serviços de energia. Por outro
lado, foi destacada a importância de uma abordagem
sistémica das questões da eficiência energética
perspectivando as vantagens da implementação
destas políticas num ambiente global de construção e
planeamento sustentáveis das cidades.
Luis Vilela Pinto, a manager for Casais Energia, was
the guest speaker at the Agência Municipal de
Energia de Gaia – Energaia -for the presentation
of the ESCO/ESE (energy service companies)
concept from the perspective of interest and
applicability, among others, in the context of the
development of projects for energy efficiency
in entities and equipment for the purpose of
providing public services.
The initiative took place in the Inova Auditorium.
Gaia, on December 14th 2010, organized by
Energaia and with a framework of activities at the
national level of RePECEE (network of Promotion
and Efficiency in Electric Power Consumption),
a structure that is supported by the Entidade
Reguladora dos Serviços Energéticos (ERSE).
The presentation entitled "energy efficiency and
ESCO: an opportunity" was targeted for the interest
benefit and the opportunity for the involvement of
public authorities in the field of energy efficiency,
particularly in public buildings and facilities, within a
framework of public procurement of energy services.
On the other hand, it has highlighted the importance
of a systemic approach to energy efficiency issues
keeping in perspective the benefits of implementing
these policies in a global environment of sustainable
urban construction and planning.

betão autocompactável (BAC) pode ser definido como um
betão capaz de fluir quando colocado num molde, escoando
de uma forma natural por entre as armaduras, envolvendo-as
e preenchendo o respetivo molde, apenas sob o efeito do seu peso
próprio, sem que ocorram fenómenos de segregação durante a sua
aplicação. Os primeiros passos, no desenvolvimento do betão com
propriedades de autocompactabilidade, foram dados na Universidade
de Tóquio, no Japão, em 1986. No entanto, a primeira aplicação num
protótipo realizou-se em 1988 (Okamura e Ouchi, 1999). Desde
então, tem havido um esforço por parte dos investigadores no
desenvolvimento, melhoria e aproveitamento das propriedades de
autocompactabilidade com novos materiais.
Auto-compactable concrete (BAC) can be defined as a concrete
that is able to flow when placed in a mould, seeping through
armour in a natural way, surrounding it and filling in its template,
under the effect of just its own weight, without any segregation
phenomena occurring during its application. The first steps in the
development of concrete with auto-compactibility properties, were
taken at the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 1986. However, the first
application in a prototype took place in 1988 (Okamura and Ouchi,
1999). Since then, there has been an effort on the part of researchers
in the development, improvement, and exploitation of the properties
of auto-compactibility with new materials.

Mais recentemente, tem sido explorada a possibilidade de desenvolver
BAC demonstrando ductilidade elevada depois de endurecido, por
intermédio da adição de fibras à sua composição. Trata-se de um
desafio suplementar dado que, para que se assegurem os requisitos
de autocompactabilidade, o efeito das fibras na perturbação do fluxo
do BAC no estado fluido tem de ser tido em conta na conceção das
misturas, elevando a complexidade desta tarefa.
No entanto, a possibilidade de conjugar as vantagens do betão
autocompactável com as que advêm da adição de fibras a materiais
de matriz cimentícia, daí resultando um compósito designado betão
autocompactável reforçado com fibras de aço (BACRFA), é razão
suficiente para mobilizar centros de I&D e indústria, principalmente
a da pré-fabricação, na tentativa de conceber novos sistemas
estruturais com vantagens técnicas e económicas.
De facto, a indústria da pré-fabricação é, frequentemente, confrontada
com a produção de elementos estruturais de alguma complexidade
geométrica. Os condicionalismos geométricos traduzem-se,
geralmente, em gastos significativos com a montagem e colocação
das armaduras. Além disso, quando esta é usada em percentagem
elevada, existem dificuldades em garantir a qualidade de betonagem
desejada, resultando em deficiências que podem comprometer tanto
o comportamento da estrutura como a sua aparência final.
Tendo por horizonte a inovação na área dos novos materiais e
soluções estruturais, a Casais Engenharia e Construção, a empresa
de desenvolvimento de novos materiais, Civitest (www.civitest.
pt), e o grupo de investigação nas áreas de Materiais Compósitos
e betões reforçados com fibras do Departamento de Engenharia
da Universidade do Minho, CRG, (http://www.civil.uminho.pt/
composites/) estão a colaborar no desenvolvimento e caraterização
do comportamento BACRFA para distintas aplicações estruturais, em
especial para ETARs e lajes fungiformes onde o reforço é praticamente
todo garantido por fibras discretas.
Exemplo do notável desempenho do BACRFA desenvolvido é a
resistência ao punçoamento obtida em painéis com 30 mm de
espessura (Figura 1), onde foi alcançada uma carga máxima de
41 kN e 68 kN em painel reforçado com 30 (BACRFA_30) e 45
(BACRFA_45) kg/m3 de fibras metálicas. Os conhecimentos
adquiridos na tecnologia do BACRFA e a transferência de
conhecimentos entre as entidades participantes são outros dos
aspetos essenciais deste tipo de parcerias, pois abrem caminho à
possibilidade de se desenvolverem novos materiais para sistemas
estruturais inovadores, com maior ciclo de vida.
More recently, the possibility of developing
BAC that demonstrates high ductility after
being hardened by means of adding fibre
to its composition has been explored.
This is an additional challenge since, in
order to ensure the requirements of
auto-compactibility, the effect of
fibre in the disruption of the BAC
flow in its fluid state has to be taken
into account in the conception of
mixtures, therefore increasing the
complexity of this task.
However, the possibility of
combining the advantages of
auto-compactable concrete with
those that arise from adding
fibre to the cementitious matrix
materials, resulting in a composite
auto-compactable concrete that is
reinforced with steel fibres (BACRFA),
is reason enough to mobilise R & D
and industrial centres, mainly involving
prefabrication, to try to design new
structural systems with technical and
economic advantages.
In fact, the prefabrication industry is often faced with
the production of structural elements of some geometric
complexity. Geometric constraints often result in significant
expenditures with the assembling and placing of armour. In addition,
when this is used at a high percentage, there are difficulties in
ensuring the desired quality of concrete resulting in failures that
can compromise both the behaviour of the structure and its final
appearance.
With a goal of innovation in the area of new materials and structural
solutions, Casais Engenharia e Construção, the new material
development company, Civitest (www.civitest.pt), and the research
group in the areas of composite materials and fibre reinforced
concrete in the Engineering Department of the University of Minho,
CRG, (http://www.civil.uminho.pt/composites/) are collaborating
in the development and characterization of BACRFA behavior for
different structural applications, in particular for ETARs (wastewater
treatment facilities) and mushroom slabs where strengthening is
practically guaranteed by discrete fibres.
An example of the remarkable performance of the developed BACRFA
is the puncture resistance that is achieved in panels that are 30 mm
thick (Figure 1), where it achieved a maximum load of 41 kN and 68 kN
in a Panel reinforced with 30 (BACRFA_30) and 45 (BACRFA_45) kg/3
m of metallic fibres. The knowledge acquired in BACRFA technology
and knowledge transfer between the entities involved are other
essential aspects of such partnerships which therefore open the way
to the possibility of developing new innovative materials for structural
systems with a greater life cycle.

European waste prevention Action Awareness Week
OBRA DO NOVO HOTEL SAVOY / NEW SAVOY HOTEL WORK SITE
No seguimento da política de Prevenção e
Segurança, tendo a Semana Europeia da
Prevenção de Resíduos como pano de
fundo, e sempre com os Valores Casais presentes,
a equipa Casais mobilizada na Madeira, promoveu
no dia 30 de novembro 2010, uma sessão de
formação e sensibilização junto de todos os
colaboradores em obra, vocacionada para a
melhoria e desenvolvimento de mais e melhores
condições de trabalho na Obra Novo Hotel Savoy.
Foram abordados temas como a proteção coletiva
e a proteção individual, comportamentos de risco,
controlo de alcoolemia em obra, manuseamento
de equipamentos, recolha e gestão de resíduos e
promoção de trabalho de equipa em obra.
Following the policy of prevention and safety,
having the European waste prevention week
as a backdrop, and always with Casais values
in mind, the Casais team mobilised in Madeira,
organised a training session on November 30th
2010 and raised awareness among all employees
at work. They are dedicated to the improvement
and development of better working conditions at
the New Savoy Hotel work site.
Themes like collective protection and individual
protection, risk behaviour, alcohol control at
the work site, handling equipment, collection
and management of waste and promotion of
teamwork at the work site were addressed.

A melhoria da competitividade e a redução de custos são benefícios
que resultam desta estratégia:
• Vantagens competitivas: melhoria da imagem da empresa e sua
aceitação pela sociedade, minimização dos riscos dos investidores e
facilidade de financiamento.
• Redução de custos: melhoria da eficiência dos processos, a redução
de consumos (matérias primas, água, energia); otimização da
gestão de resíduos; minimização de impactes ambientais negativos,
diminuição dos prémios de seguros e minimização de multas e coimas.
A implementação de medidas de prevenção dos impactes
ambientais abrange, fundamentalmente, áreas como a redução do
consumo de recursos e a otimização da gestão de resíduos.
A concretização destes objetivos só foi possível com o
envolvimento de todos, garantindo, assim, a todos os níveis de
decisão e atuação, a aplicação do princípio da melhoria contínua na
gestão ambiental da empresa.
O acompanhamento sistemático dos indicadores de
desempenho ambiental, no âmbito das atividades do Sistema
de Gestão Integrado, permite avaliar os principais fatores de
desenvolvimento sustentável, através da monitorização dos
aspetos ambientais significativos, que demonstram a evolução
positiva do desempenho da empresa neste domínio:

sustainable development, through the monitoring of significant
environmental aspects that demonstrate the positive development
of the company's performance in this area:

Considerando o consumo de água por volume de faturação, em 2010, verificou-se uma
redução de 78 m 3 /M€. O consumo em obra corresponde a 87% do consumo global.

Considerando o consumo de energia elétrica por volume de faturação,

O consumo de gasóleo sofreu uma redução substancial em 2010.
A principal contribuição resultou do consumo na frota, que
corresponde a 77% do consumo global. Considerando o consumo de
gasóleo na frota por volume de faturação verificou-se, entre 2008 e
2010, uma redução de 0,5 litros/100km.
Considerando o consumo de gasóleo em obra por volume de
faturação, verificou-se, entre 2006 e2010, uma redução de 1 tep/M€,
ou seja, uma redução de, aproximadamente, 1.100 litros/M€.
Diesel consumption experienced a substantial reduction in 2010.
The main contribution resulted from fleet consumption which
represents 77% of total consumption.
The consumption of diesel fuel by the fleet by invoice volume,
between 2008 and 2010, showed a reduction of 0.5 litres/100 km.
Regarding the diesel consumption per invoice volume, between
2006 and 2010, there was a reduction of 1 toe/M €, i.e. a reduction of
approximately 1,100 litres/M €.

A segregação de resíduos regista ainda melhorias relativamente a 2007,
ano em que foi registada a melhoria mais acentuada neste aspeto.
Considerando a produção de resíduos não valorizáveis (mistura),
mantém-se uma grande redução relativamente a 2007, correspondendo
no último ano a apenas 4,5% do total dos resíduos produzidos.
A percentagem de inertes limpos registou uma ligeira subida,
correspondendo atualmente a 82% do total de resíduos produzidos.
Waste segregation noted improvements relative to 2007, when it registered
sharper improvement in this aspect.
The production of non-recoverable waste (mixture), maintains a large reduction
compared to 2007, last year amounting to only 4.5% of the total produced waste.
The percentage of clean aggregates increased slightly, which is currently 82% of
the total waste produced.
