Por trás das florestas
Há muitos anos, justamente durante um
dos Congressos e Exposições da ABTCP, como
o ABTCP-PI 2009, um CEO da International
Paper (Champion àquela época) comentou
comigo sobre a necessidade de o setor otimizar
o potencial das florestas para outros usos além
do focado na celulose.
Os tempos passaram; algumas pesquisas e
direcionamentos foram sendo dados ao longo
dos anos, para que hoje pudéssemos retomar
a colocação daquele CEO e apresentar em
Reportagem de Capa o tema da bioenergia.
Da utilização de biomassa para gerar energia
à produção de etanol a partir da celulose, são
muitas as possibilidades de reaproveitamento
do potencial verde do setor.
A busca da sustentabilidade é um movimento
constante e paralelo às pesquisas e aos
desenvolvimentos dos novos usos do patrimônio
verde pela indústria de celulose e papel, já
que se trata de recursos naturais renováveis
para os quais há uma gestão extremamente
profissional das empresas.
Afinal, grandes projetos não se constroem
da noite para o dia, mas requerem tempo, dedicação
e muito esforço para gerarem resultados
realmente relevantes no universo da ciência e
da tecnologia. Quem atua nesta área entende o
que estou dizendo; quem não a conhece pode se
balizar nas leis da natureza, para compreender
o tempo necessário para que um simples fruto
amadureça e chegue ao ponto de ser colhido.
Por falar em projetos grandiosos, vamos
mostrar na Entrevista deste mês a empresa que
em 2009 completa 110 anos de setor: a Klabin.
A companhia, que começou sua trajetória em
1899 com a fundação de uma pequena empresa
em São Paulo (SP), hoje é a maior produtora e
exportadora de papéis do País, respondendo
por 75% dos embarques. Para Antonio Sergio
Alfano, diretor Financeiro, de Planejamento e
de Relações com Investidores, um dos pontoschave
dessa trajetória são os recursos humanos:
“Não se completam 110 anos de uma empresa
sem o empreendedorismo dos seus acionistas e
sem as pessoas que lá trabalham, desde o mais
humilde funcionário até o alto escalão de uma
organização”, afirma. O sucesso vai além, como
adianta Alfano, ao contar que a Klabin pretende
instalar em Monte Alegre uma capacidade de
produção em celulose de 1,3 milhão a 1,5 milhão
de toneladas nos próximos anos.

Behind the forests
Many years ago, more precisely in one of
ABTCP Congresses and Exhibitions – such as
ABTCP-PI 2009 – an International Paper CEO
at that time talked to me about the necessity
of the sector’s optimization of the potential of
forests for other uses other than pulp.
Time has passed; some researches have
been made and some actions have been taken
throughout the years so that today we could
quote that CEO and present the issue in our
Cover Story entitled “Bionergy”. From biomass
utilization to generate energy to the production
of ethanol from cellulose, there’s a wide
range of possibilities to take full advantage of
the green potential of the sector.
The quest for sustainability is an ongoing
process that takes place along with researches
and the development of new uses of the green
patrimony by paper and pulp industries, since
these are renewable natural resources which
are under the professional management of
companies.
After all, great projects are not built
overnight. It takes time, dedication and a
great deal of effort to achieve really relevant
results in the universe of science and technology.
If you work in this area you probably
know what I am talking about, and if you
do not, you might go by the laws of nature
to understand how long it takes for fruit to
ripen so it can be picked up.
Talking about great projects, we’ll be
showing in this month’s Interview the company
that is celebrating its 110th anniversary
in the sector: Klabin. The company that was
founded in 1899 as a small company in São
Paulo (SP) is currently considered the biggest
producer and exporter of paper in the country,
responsible for 75% of the shipments. To
Antonio Sergio Alfano, Financial, Planning
and Investor Relations Director, one of the
keys to the success of the company is Human
Resources. “It would be impossible to celebrate
the company’s 110th anniversary without
the entrepreneurship of its shareholders and
without the people who work there, from the
humblest worker to a high rank employee in the
organization,” he claims. Success goes beyond
all that, says Alfano, that tells us that Klabin
intends to install in Monte Alegre a capacity
of pulp production between 1.3 million to 1.5
million tons in the next few years.
