(1912-1919). 2011. 145 Follhas. Dissertation (Master´s degree in Social History) –
Universidade Estadual de Londrina, Londrina, 2011.
ABSTRACT
This work is about the militancy of Jose Oiticica, analyzing his studies, articles, books,
activities and his newspapers. The approach places the Brazilian trade union movement
emphasizing the "anarchist life" of Jose Oiticica. The teacher, director, leader and the
anarchist militant who has a special place in the brazilian historiography, as we'll see along
this analysis. The timeframe is delimited between 1912 and 1919. The choice for this period
is due to the fact that, in 1912, Oiticica declared himself an anarchist, in the anticlerical
weekly A Lanterna. The research finishes in 1919, when he came back to the city of Rio de
Janeiro, after he was condemned for being the strike leader in the capital of the country, in
november 1918, punished with banishment in the state of Alagoas. Therefore, I intend to
analyze the profile of this militant in the story of anarchism in the state of Rio de Janeiro
guiding myself by the his many-sided choices, observing his course based on his conflicts,
context, deceptions, means of action and also the sociocultural and political context. I intend
to analyze the person as somebody who was inserted in a collective and not as an
autonomous human being, realizing, at the same time, his particularities and his
connections with the place and time he lived, that is to say, his story of life. So, i believe
that's possible to reflect about the building of the Oiticica's anarchism and also reflect about
some characteristics of the worker movement in that state.
KEY WORDS: Jose Oiticica, anarchism, worker movement.
