CAMPOS, A.G. The nature of psychiatric care in Samu-Cuiabá, in 2010.
Dissertation (Master´s in Nursing) – Graduate Course in Nursing, UFMT, Cuiabá.
Advisor: Dr.ª Alice Guimarães Bottaro de Oliveira
The Service Mobile Emergency Care (EMS- SAMU) aims to meet the urgent and
emergency medical, surgical, gynecological, obstetric, pediatric and psychiatric. This
service has two types of rescue units: basic support unit (USB) drive and advanced
support (USA), each has a different staff and vehicles to provide assistance to a
greater or lesser complexity. Because SAMU is a recent pre-hospital in Mato Grosso,
are still few studies of its role in the psychiatric emergency care. The study objectives
were to characterize the nature of psychiatric consultations attended by SAMU-
Cuiabá, from January 1 to December31, 20120. Specifically, identify the users
served by gender and age, diagnosis, neurological examination, the main complaints
and symptoms and drug therapy used, the geographical area where the call
occurred, and describe the dynamics of care: the time spent, unit thrown and the
destination of the pacient. This is a retrospective transversal study, whose source
was the records of visits to the SAMU. The data were subjected to statistical analysis
by the program Statistical Package for Socila Sciences – (SPSS) Version 17, and the
t-Student test to compare means and multiple comparisons between regions were
made by Dunnett´s test. It was adopted a significance level of 5% for all analysis. The
study population were of psychiatric care that occurred durig the period January to
December 2010, registered on Form Individual Medical Care and Nursing. There
were 713 records of attendance, representing 3.7% in the total occurrences. The
USB were activated in 86.2% of cases and 13.6% in USA. Manly males (53.0%) and
aged18-41 years (59,4%). Even as diagnostic categories do not appear in the
International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10), the terms “psycothic” and “mental
outbreak” were described as the most diagnostic. Predominant referrals to the
psychiatric emergency service attached to the psychiatric hospital (84.6%) and only
0.3% in CAPS. The drugs were used in only 10.3% of patients. The average
attendance at the site of occurrence was 14 minutes, is reduced in relation to
address adequately the needs of patients with mental disorders. Police were called to
support in all of psychiatric care. The quality of records, secondary source of data for
this research was the mais limitation of the study. It is concluded that there was
progress, but there is also need for investment and the creation of an information
storage system of online events, create protocol psychiatric services at, resizing
geographical units and training of rescue teams in order to improvement of practices
that enhance the actions of professionals, specially nurses toward the technically
more qualified and less repressive.
