"OS SILOS DO SILÊNCIO"
A Cônsul-Geral de Portugal em
Toronto, Drª Maria Amélia Paiva, em
colaboração com a Brock University,
levou a cabo, na Galeria Almada
Negreiros do Consulado Geral de
Portugal em Toronto, o lançamento do
livro "Os Silos do Silêncio" (Poesia
1948-2004), do Dr. Eduíno de Jesus.
"A poesia, não se sabe o que é.
Nem é preciso." E tal fica bem
patenteado através desta simplesmente
maravilhosa publicação.
Eduíno de Jesus, poeta perfeccionista,
micaelense, cidadão do mundo,
acaba de ver o lançamento, entre nós do
livro "Os Silos do Silêncio" reedição
selecta e refundida de três colectâneas
poéticas editadas há meio século:
Caminho para o Desconhecido (1952), O
Rei Lua (1955) e A Cidade Destruída
durante o Eclipse (1957), a que foi adicionado
um amplo conjunto de Inéditos e
Dispersos ("Poética Fragmentária"), em
que se reúnem poemas escritos entre 1948
e 2004.
Eduíno de Jesus é poeta de difícil categorização.
Segundo Couto Viana, que assina o
Prefácio da obra, estamos justamente perante
"um poeta não alinhado". Saliente-se, a
propósito, o criterioso e minucioso Posfácio de
Onésimo Teotónio Almeida, intitulado "Esboço
de uma Biobibliografia". Existe um sentido de
modernidade na poesia de
Eduíno de Jesus. Tal originalidade
está bem patente nos
poemas "Conquista", "Um
Ramo de Flores para o
Salvador da Pátria", "As
Figuras de Cera do Museu
das Janelas Verdes", "Simples
Apontamento Coreográfico",
"Artesania Poética",
"Jonglerie da Sede e da Fome", entre
outros. Ao escrever poesia, Eduíno de
Jesus mantém uma relação com o
tecido literário, poético, cultural e civilizacional
que a precede. Os Silos do
Silêncio é merecedor de todos os elogios
que foram referenciados na
Galeria Almada Negreiros.
De salientar como a Galeria
Almada Negreiros tinha a sua lotação
super-esgotada, o que se ficou ao
excelente trabalho desenvolvido pelo
Consulado. Poemas do Dr. Eduíno de Jesus
foram lidos, musica, uma voz feminina, e
instrumentos de corda, a proporcionarem o
ambiente ideal para a ocasião.
ORGANISTA PORTUGUÊS ENTRE NÓS
Vamos ter entre nós o Dr. João Vaz, organista
português muito conhecido em Portugal e
no resto da Europa, que vem para nos presentear
com o seu interpretar de música desde o
século XV. Será no dia 9 de Dezembro (Sexta-
Feira), pelas 19 horas, na Igreja St. Simon-the-
Apostle (525 Bloor Street East) a qual tem uma
capacidade máxima para 500 pessoas. Vai valer
a pena.
JOVENS ANGOLANOS EM MISSÃO IMPORTANTE
A jovem angolana Rita da Costa está a
organizar uma angariação de fundos para ajudar
as crianças mais necessitadas de Angola.
Esta sessão de angariação de fundos está marcada
para sábado, 26 de Novembro na Casa do
Alentejo, com início às 19
horas. Todos quantos
estiverem interessados em
ajudar esta iniciativa em
prol da juventude
angolana, só terá que marcar

CANADÁ
Líder da oposição anuncia
moção para derrubar Governo
O partido social-democrata canadiano
(NDP) anunciou que apresentará a 24 de
Novembro uma moção de censura contra o
Governo, para que sejam convocadas eleições
gerais em Fevereiro próximo.
O líder do NDP, Jack Layton, indicou ainda
que manterá conversações com os líderes dos
outros grupos da oposição, o Partido
Conservador (PC) e o Bloco do Quebeque (BQ),
para que a moção seja redigida de forma a ser
aceite por todos os grupos parlamentares.
O NDP apoiou de forma pontual, até à semana
passada, o Governo do primeiro-ministro
Paul Martin, do Partido Liberal, mas a ausência
de acordo sobre a reforma da Saúde levou à ruptura
entre ambas as formações.
O Partido Liberal (PL) conta 133 deputados,
o PC tem 98, o BQ 54 e o NDP 18.
No Parlamento canadiano têm ainda assento
quatro deputados independentes e há um lugar
vago.
O PC já tentou, em Maio último, derrubar o
Governo mas o apoio de última hora do NDP e
de um deputado independente, bem como a
saída de uma deputada conservadora do Partido
Liberal, fez abortar a tentativa.
O líder do PC, Stephen Harper, e o do Bloco
do Quebeque, Gilles Duceppe, expressaram
segunda-feira a intenção de derrubar o Governo
liberal - que se mantém no poder desde 1993 -,
mas exigiram ao NDP que mostre claramente
que pretende pôr fim ao executivo de Paul
Martin.
A decisão de apresentar uma moção contra o
Governo surge poucos dias após a divulgação do
relatório de uma comissão investigadora independente,
que constatou que membros do
Partido Liberal estiveram envolvidos em actos
de corrupção e subornos no Quebeque.
O relatório da comissão - cuja constituição
foi ordenada por Martin após a sua subida ao
poder, em Dezembro de 2003 - responsabilizou
politicamente pelas ilegalidades o anterior
primeiro-ministro, Jean Chrétien.
Martin, que foi durante 10 anos, o ministro
das Finanças de Chrétien, foi ilibado pelo
relatório Gomery, mas os partidos da oposição
utilizaram as conclusões do documento para
retirar legitimidade ao seu Governo.
Nos últimos dias, várias sondagens realizadas
apresentaram resultados contraditórios,
apontando algumas a queda dos liberais nas
intenções de voto e mesmo uma ligeira vantagem
do Partido Conservador.
No entanto, a mais recente sondagem, divulgada
segunda-feira, coloca o PL à frente dos
conservadores, a expensas do NDP.
Prime Minister Paul Martin made the following
statement:
"The proposal put forth by the opposition
leaders is untenable. Government cannot govern
without the confidence of the House - and you
either have it, or you don't. Government puts
forward an agenda, and the opposition parties
take a stand and vote clearly one way or the
other, for or against, yes or no.
Government must be able act on behalf of
Canadians and in their interests, and that means
responding to crises, bringing forward initiatives,
meeting our international responsibilities
and managing the public purse. This can only be
done if government has the confidence of the
House.
The opposition leaders are proposing, in
effect, to remove the government from office but
without triggering an election. There is no provision
in our Parliamentary tradition nor in common
sense for the kind of plan the opposition
seeks to concoct. In our system of Parliament,
you don't get to vote, "No, but Yes for now."
There is no such thing as non-confidence lite.
If the opposition leaders now decide to vote
non-confidence in the government, then that is
their right. But it will be up to them to explain
why they are forcing an election at a time when
Canadians least want one. It will be up to them
to explain why, for the sake of only eight weeks'
difference, they have ended the life of this
Parliament - and in doing so, cost Canadians so
much.
Our agenda for Parliament has been in place
for some time now. If the opposition brings
down the government, needy Canadian families
won't receive a $250 rebate on energy costs this
winter, farmers will be denied support related to
the BSE crisis, and our soldiers will not receive
the pay raises they so richly deserve.
More is at risk, such as the success of the
UN Conference on Climate Change, where
Canada has a key role to play. And Aboriginal
Canadians could be denied the First Ministers
Meeting and progress on clean water and better
health care in their communities.
If the opposition parties act on their threat to
bring down the government, there will be a
price: much will be lost. And for what? For eight
weeks' difference. And what do Canadians gain?
An election campaign they don't want, at a time
of year that is supposed to be about family, not
partisan politics.
This past spring, I pledged that I would call
an election within 30 days of receiving the final
report of Mr. Justice John Gomery. I did it as a
matter of principle - because I felt strongly that
the people of our country needed all his recommendations,
and also the response of the government
and the opposition parties. That was my
promise to Canadians, and I stand by it.
This timeframe would also allow my government
to finish much of what it started - to
make progress on cutting wait times, so people
can get the health care they need sooner. To
stand up to the Americans on softwood lumber
and get results for Canadian families and businesses.
And to cut taxes for low- and middleincome
Canadians.
In conclusion, let me say this directly to
Canadians.
I think this incessant talk about an election -
the endless gamesmanship and maneuvering
you've seen from the opposition for almost a
year now - that's not the way it ought to be, and
it's not fair to you. You go to work everyday. You
show up and you do your job. You expect the
same from the people you send to Ottawa - that's
the minimum you expect - but you're not getting
it.
Instead, the spring was all about the opposition
trying to force an election. And now the fall
is about the opposition trying to force an election.
Even though one is already planned - and
has for months been planned - for early next
year.
This is the first minority government we've
had here in 25 years. It's taken some getting used
to. And I'll admit it - at times it's been frustrating.
As Prime Minister, I have a clear sense of
where I want to take our country, what I want to
get done for Canadians. And we have managed
to get a lot accomplished - strengthening health
care, working to build a national system of early
learning and child care, investing in our cities
and communities.
But because the opposition has been focused
only on forcing an election, and because together
these three parties have more seats than we
do, everything has become about tactics and
strategy.
Well, I for one believe we in this Parliament
were elected to do a job, and I'm pretty sure the
job wasn't talking endlessly about having another
election. Thank you."
