The NBA will kick off their post season this weekend
and for the first time in several years, the
Toronto Raptors will be in the thick of things.
They will play host to the New Jersey Nets in the first round
of the NBA playoffs.
Former Raptor Vince Carter, will saunter his way into
town sometime today in preparation for the series opener
against his former team. Raptor fans will undoubtedly
heckle their former player throughout the first two games of
the series, which will be played at the Air Canada Centre.
The match-up between the Raptors and the Nets was
feared by many in Toronto due to the fact that Carter would
probably have redemption on his mind.
Carter was in a Toronto uniform the last time the
Raptors were in the playoffs, and he would probably love
to eliminate his former squad from advancing to the next
round. However, Chris Bosh is the "number one guy" in
Toronto now, and he is not about to let Carter and company
walk into town and steal the series.
Bosh will be at the top of his game, as will Jose
Calderon, Anthony Parker and Andrea Bargnani. Bargnani
made his triumphant return to the court on Wednesday night
after being out about a month with an injury.The only problem
is, the Nets are an experienced playoff team; whereas
the Raptors are not. Carter and company have been to the
dance in the past and have been successful. Bosh and the
boys are new to the game. Even so, this will be a very interesting
series.
The amount of energy that will be in the ACC will help
the Raptors come out strong in the first two games, which
is great because it may take Carter out of the equation.
However, Carter seems to step up his game against his old
team, and that is exactly what scares Raptor fans.
But have no fear Toronto, your beloved Raptors will

"Things are not looking good"
After having one
of the best seasons
in recent
history, the Toronto Blue Jays have hit a
snag. An injury to their closer, B.J. Ryan
and the lack of offensive prowess, have hindered
the Jays' game early this season.
Mind you, it is still early however, this
is not the kind of team that can go out there
and dominate despite having some problems;
they are not that good. They need to
firing on all cylinders in order to make a
strong run this season. They can not
afford to have players struggle at the
plate, or on the mound for that matter.
This team has to remain healthy; if
not, they can kiss the post season
goodbye.
Now I know what you may be
thinking; I am not being too hard on
this team. It has been too long
between winning seasons for the
Jays; and I for one can't take it anymore.
As a major baseball fan, I want to see
my home team succeed; and thus I have
every right to complain when things aren't
going the way they should.
With all the talent that this team has in
their clubhouse, they should be able to take
control of games and, perhaps not dominate
but, win games.
A case in point would be the series they
had with the Boston Red Sox this past
week. The Red Sox are one of the elite
teams in the league however; the Jays were
only able to win by one run in the series
opener. Granted, a win is a win however, if
they want to make a serious run at the top
teams in the league, they're going to have to
step it up.
They allowed the Red Sox to control the
second game of the series which is not a
good sign. In the 4-1 loss, the Jays looked
disinterested, perhaps bored. Starting pitcher,
Tomo Ohka gave up three home runs in
six innings pitched; this is not good. If
things continue to go the same way for the
Jays this season, we will be packing up our
baseball bats early once again.
The Blue Jays will be in Baltimore this
weekend taking on the Orioles in a three
game series before traveling to Boston, for
two games, against the Red Sox beginning
on Monday. They will then finish off the
week with a two game series against the
New York Yankees.

aos "vaidosos" à saída do hospital

depois de nove dias internado
devido a uma pneumonia. À
saída do hospital, o presidente
do Benfica não perdeu tempo
e "atirou-se" aos críticos da
equipa.
"O Benfica está muito
bem de saúde e vai demonstrar
isso. Entristece-me ver
alguns comentários de pessoas
ligadas ao Benfica, mas
a esses, quando estiver melhor,
irei responder. Já é altura
dos vaidosos aparecerem.
Quando o Benfica perde
aparecem e até parece que
gostam que perca para terem
razão", disse o líder encarnado.
Vieira garante que nada
põe em causa o projecto
traçado para o clube encarnado:
"O Benfica deu ontem
uma demonstração grande da
sua força, com o empréstimo
obrigacionista. O que está em
causa não é uma pessoa ou
duas, é um projecto, que está
a assustar muita gente.
Sabemos o que valemos com
uma televisão, se calhar
temos de ter também uma
rádio. Os benfiquistas têm de
estar unidos. Querem-nos
abater."
Depois de ter apanhado
um susto, o presidente do
Benfica procura retomar
agora a actividade, ainda que
com algumas precauções.
"Sinto-me bem. Depois do
que se passou, melhorei bastante.
Agora preciso de
repouso", disse o líder encarnado,
que tenciona agora
abandonar um vício: "O tabaco
para mim acabou. Não me
vai custar minimamente. À
segunda podia ser pior e
ainda mais à terceira. Tenho
de pensar mais em mim."
