ABSTRACT<br />

The aim of this paper is to present a teaching proposal for translating humor. A course on<br />

translation of humor aimed at undergraduate students was organized, using a corpus of 42<br />

Mafalda’s comic strips (Quino, 2003). The objective was to show how people should act<br />

when teaching translation of humor in order to get a comic effect in the target language. The<br />

analysis was based on data given by the students translations, by their reports on these<br />

translations, and by two questionnaires. The results suggested that translation activities which<br />

promote discussion, reflection, critical analysis and re-elaboration, are the best choice when<br />

we want the students to become competent and critical professionals.<br />
