Percorrendo as vias
Abstract
This work studies the relations between Mario de Andrade – reader of Freud –
and psychoanalysis, or, in other words, the writer’s usage of psychoanalytical
concepts and notions. When he incorporates psychoanalysis to his studies on folklore
he makes use of the psychoanalytical terms repression and sublimation, thus creating
a translation of his own, with approximately the same extension as these notions:
sequestration. Furthermore, three other terms are marked out in Mario de Andrade’s
work as psychoanalytical terms and/or akin to psychoanalysis: Libido, Madness, and
Unconscious. Along the Freudian and Lacanian conceptual lines, we single out
passages from the writer’s works where these questions emerge. The thesis develops
in two directions: on the one hand, it searches for the kind of psychoanalysis read and
interpreted by Mario de Andrade; on the other hand, through psychoanalysis, in a
critical exercise, it devises possible readings of some of his texts. This
psychoanalytical path through the writer’s texts makes up what we called Freudian
Traces in Mario de Andrade.
