o mundo.
herança comum transcende todas as diferenças”, (NISE DA
A CIAD e o CIAD Cultural representaram o nosso termômetro,
our music, our literature, nor our scientific progress.
Principally, the latter, which is not a recent event.
The fact that Brazil is hosting CIAD, was first an
example of the hard and tricky work of our Black
intellectuals to prove how important it is to have
Blacks in a variety of power positions, committed to
the cause of the community; secondly, how valuable
it is for Brazil to be able to begin to shake off her
demons, to confront the mirror where the oh so familiar
images, fictions that present themselves as reality,
where we do not have to swallow some prickly
half-truth in order to make it through the day. It is
high time for us to build highways together.
The second meeting of CIAD brings to Brazil a
perspective of being able to construct together with
our African brethern an Afro-centric alternative,
with a basis in humanism in order to plurialize the
world. And since “the human psyche...in the sense of
common heritage transcends all difference“ (Silveira:
1978, 73) this construction is possible without the
fundamentalist desire to save or exclude anyone,
without us having to abandon our unique experiences.
CIAD and CIAD Cultural represent our thermometer,
a manner of moving from the micro to the macro
without losing our identity and at the same time,
a return from the macro to the micro, with a vision
expanded by the awareness of the journey that we
are mapping, in order to enriche our literary, artistic,
and scientific projects, given that, in this “door of no
return” through which we entered, what sustains us is
the force of reconstruction, of the remaking, and of the
revision of the roots planted in the center of the “fissure
between the past and the present” (Brand: 200,
5), signifying the graphing of the map through which
we “diasporically” move, in order to resolve our past
and consequently to make possible our future-present.
The Cultural was the test that we were not only
the colonized hosts – the role that we are tired of
representing – but rather, the offspring-guardians
of unimaginable secrets, and as a result, also
producers of science, art, and literature: conscious
instruments in the quest to raise the self-esteem of
our community.
“Looking toward the future, searching for an
opportunity of being what could not even be
imagined“ (Diescho). How alike are the children and
the lovers of that woman who from the other side of
the Atlantic bred in her womb humanity!
