Sustentabilidade: e eu com isso? Sustentabilidade é um conceito que está longe de ser consensual. Se, por definição, “o desenvolvimento sustentável é aquele que atende as necessidades do presente”, por que ela é quase sempre vista pelo prisma exclusivo do futuro? Desviando nossa atenção das reais urgências do presente, a sustentabilidade corre o perigo de se transformar numa força despolitizadora. Partindo dessas indagações, convidamos vinte profissionais e dez estudantes a elaborar cartazes para esta exposição. Selecionamos jovens profissionais - e dois reconhecidos artistas - que apontam para novas fronteiras no campo da linguagem. No caso dos estudantes, solicitamos, em concurso nacional, propostas que foram aprofundadas num workshop realizado como parte da programação do NDesign - Encontro Nacional de Estudantes, realizado em julho de 2010, em Curitiba. Mais do que respostas, buscamos boas perguntas. Quando o assunto é polêmico, poucos meios de comunicação têm a força de bons cartazes. Se os designers gráficos são antes de tudo pensadores visuais, seu papel mais importante é enriquecer o debate, difundindo a cultura da sustentabilidade em seu entendimento amplo através de sua ressignificação. André Stolarski e Rico Lins | Curadores Sustainability: what do I care? Sustainability is a concept far from reaching complete consensus. If, by definition, “sustainable development is that which satisfies present needs”, why is it almost always looked at through the exclusive prism of the future? Rerouting our attention from real current problems, sustainability runs the risk of becoming a depoliticizing force. Based on these questions, we have invited twenty professionals and ten students to create posters to be exhibited. We have selected young professionals – and two renowned artists – who point out new frontiers in the field of language. In the case of the students, we requested proposals through a national contest that where looked at more closely in workshops held as part of the program for NDesign, National Students Meeting, held in June 2010 in Curitiba. More than answers, we sought questions. When a subject is controversial, few communication means carry the strength of good posters. If graphic designers are first and foremost visual thinkers, their most important role lies in enriching the debate, disseminating the culture of sustainability in its broadest meaning by resignifying it. 188 André Stolarski and Rico Lins | Curators 189
