Urban design: a
trajectory
The exhibition Urban Design – a trajectory
seeks to underline the close ties that exist
between the quality of life in a city and
processes of design by linking them to the
creation of life and work-related structures that shape their
growth; to the projects in terms of the places where meeting,
exchange and shared life take place in streets, squares and
parks; to the elements that help make up the local identity and
meet the practical needs of its citizens such as lamps, benches,
flower planters, kiosks and bus stops.
There are four fundamental work themes that are intertwined
in the above-mentioned spectrum: the design of the city
– an integrated framework of life, work and movement;
sustainability in its dimensions, not only environmentally,
but also socially and economically, being synonymous with
creativity; mobility – the flow of people, goods and services
that allows for the circulation of its vital energy; and binomial
identity/coexistence, which seeks to enhance the value of
cultural traits, history and memories that strengthen the selfesteem
of its residents while hosting diversity, the multiplicity
of ethnicities, ages, incomes and religions.
Visitors of this exhibition will travel down a path that addresses
these issues, bringing nearly five decades of professional
experience from an urbanistic architect whose joy is to have
believed in his dreams – dreams that were shared, and
many of which were accomplished jointly with other notable
professionals and work teams throughout the length of this
trajectory.
The city of Curitiba is the platform upon which these concepts
were applied, allowing for examples to be drawn from its rich
urban memory that support these concepts and that illustrate
the intended narrative, together with more recent creations.

ressaltar os estreitos vínculos entre a qualidade
de vida de uma cidade e os processos de design
ao relacioná-los à concepção das estruturas de
seus espaços de encontro, troca e convivência em ruas, praças e
parques; aos elementos que ajudam a compor a identidade local
e atender necessidades práticas dos cidadãos como luminárias,
bancos, floreiras, quiosques e pontos de ônibus.
São quatro as temáticas fundamentais de trabalho que se
entrelaçam nas referidas escalas: o desenho da cidade -
uma estrutura integrada de vida, trabalho e movimento;
a sustentabilidade em suas dimensões não só ambiental,
mas também social e econômica, sendo criatividade seu
sinônimo; mobilidade - os fluxos de pessoas, bens e serviços
que permitem a circulação de sua energia vital; e o binômio
identidade / coexistência, que busca a valorização dos
traços culturais, da história e da memória que fortalecem a
autoestima de seus residentes ao mesmo tempo em que acolhe
a diversidade, a multiplicidade de etnias, de idades, de rendas,
de religiões.
O caminho que o visitante desta mostra percorrerá aborda essas
temáticas, trazendo a experiência profissional no setor público e
na iniciativa privada de já quase cinco décadas de um arquiteto
urbanista que tem a felicidade de ter acreditado em seus sonhos
– sonhos esses que foram compartilhados e muitos realizados
conjuntamente com outros notáveis profissionais e equipes de
trabalho ao longo dessa trajetória.
A Cidade de Curitiba constitui a plataforma sobre a qual se
aplicaram esses conceitos, permitindo extrair de sua rica
memória urbana exemplos que os sustentam e que ilustram a
narrativa pretendida, em conjunto com criações mais recentes.
