Sementes | Seeds Sementes A Amazônia brasileira possui um quarto das espécies vegetais do mundo. São cerca de 30 mil espécies de plantas já catalogadas, sem falar das ainda desconhecidas. Elas têm sementes de variados tamanhos, cores e características, cujo uso em maior escala só foi iniciado muito recentemente. Around 30,000 plant species have already been cataloged, not to mention those still unknown. They have seeds of varied sizes, colors and characteristics, whose use on a large scale was only very recently initiated. Among those being used the most, highlights include seeds from the so called ivory palm (Phytelephas macrocarpa) and the tucum palm (Astrocaryum aculeatum), this having an appearance that resembles bakelite. Fibras vegetais Em geral utilizadas para a elaboração de esteiras e produtos de baixo valor agregado, as palhas vêm ganhando usos em objetos diferenciados, que exploram uma infinidade de texturas e tonalidade de cores geradas pelas muitas espécies de palmeiras. uma das espécies mais empregadas recentemente tem sido o buriti, tão cantado por Guimarães Rosa. O potencial desses materiais, contudo, ainda está longe de ser explorado.
