As a reserve of quality raw materials, trees and forests were purchased
for initial use in the wood mill and crate factory and later on in the
furniture manufacturing plant. The acquisition of company-owned
forests increased with business. Large scale production led to the
consumption of a large amount of timber, which led Martin Zipperer
to look at a reforestation policy as a way to guarantee raw material
for the industry, without damaging the environment. A commitment to
the conservation of nature was a habit inherited from his father, Josef
Zipperer, who was also concerned by the damage deforestation was
causing to ecological balance.
In 1930, Martin began planting Brazilian pine (Araucaria
angustifolia) and later on included oak, Brazilian walnut and
Monterey pine (Pinus insignis). 5 In 1940, he initiated the first
reforestation project approved by the Pine Institute, known today
as IBAMA. He wrote in the Economic and financial observer,
Rio de Janeiro (1951): “For 12 years the firm we manage has
been reforesting and studying not only the Brazilian pine, but
also the Brazilian walnut, cedar and other such wood, used in
industrialization. We have already acquired expertise that remains
to be applied until we know, with scientific certainty, how to create a
new forest. Who is to say, though, that by the time these new forests
are formed, we will still have native timber to supply our growing
national industry? Therefore, urgent and serious studies must be
undertaken, before it is too late”. According to Bráulio Zipperer6 , when
the company was sold in 1982, its property included some 3,000,500
trees aged 15 years old.
Móveis Cimo S.A. had its trade name changed on a number of
occasions due to changes in ownership. In 1913, it was Jung & Cia.,
in 1919, A. Ehrl & Cia., in 1924, N. Jacob & Cia., in 1925, the firm
came into the possession of the Zipperer family, under the name Jorge
Zipperer & Cia. In 1939, due to health reasons, Jorge handed over
management of the company. It then became a joint-stock company,
changing the trade name to Cia. M. Zipperer – Móveis Rio Negrinho.
In 1944, the company became affiliated with: Maida Irmãos, from
Curitiba; Paulo Leopoldo Réu, from Joinville; Shauz & Buchmann,
from Rio Negrinho, and the sales firms P. Kastrup & Cia., from Rio
de Janeiro, and Raimundo Egg, from Curitiba. From this huge
association came the name Cia. Industrial de Móveis – Móveis Cimo
S.A. In 1954, the trade name changed to Móveis Cimo S.A.
A aquisição
angustifolia) e posteriormente do carvalho, imbuia e pinheiro
A firma então passou
Cia. M. Zipperer – Móveis Rio Negrinho. Em 1944, associamse
à empresa: Maida Irmãos, de Curitiba; Paulo Leopoldo Réu,
de Joinville; Shauz & Buchmann, de Rio Negrinho, e as firmas
vendedoras P. Kastrup & Cia., do Rio de Janeiro, e Raimundo Egg,
de Curitiba. Dessa grande associação saiu a denominação Cia.
Industrial de Móveis – Móveis Cimo S.A. Em 1954, a razão social
mudou para Móveis Cimo S.A.
