The Brazilian Design Biennial 2010 extended its duration through the
interactive actions especially designed for this edition. A virtual platform
was created for the purpose of perpetuating the activities, documenting their
realization and enabling long distance participation for people who were unable
to attend the Biennial in person. The digital content is available on the Biennial
website (www.bienalbrasileiradedesign.com.br).
The means chosen for designing the virtual platform ensured support for the
proposed interactive actions combined with pleasing aesthetics and an excellent
standard of usability. As a result, those who could not attend the events of the
Biennial – whether for distance or lack of time – have access to the content.
Among the interactive actions, a virtual tour was created that featured the
nine official exhibitions of the Biennial: “Reinvention of Substance”, “Design
Biennials: Beginnings of an idea”, “ Design, innovation and sustainability”,
“Urban Design: a trajectory”, “it’s a small world” (Denmark), “Design Memory
in Paraná”, “The Newest of the New” and “Sustainability: What do I care?”.
In the interactive actions, the user can also access the 21 specially-produced
videos about the event, follow a guided tour – conducted by Adélia Borges,
curator of the Biennial –, watch the testimonials filmed by the 13 curators of the
exhibitions and representatives from institutions, apart from seeing a time lapse,
which is a record of the exhibition settings made from still images. Overall, the
interactive actions were enriched through the thorough job of documentation that
entailed 35,000 photographs and over 300 hours of film footage.
The virtual platform also provides general information about the Biennial, as
well as all the data related to the International Seminar “Design Innovation
Labs”, the Educational Actions, the Parallel Actions, the Interactive Actions, the
partners of the event, the latest happenings and the news reported by the press
that amounted to 136 insertions in the print media, 572 insertions in online
Interactives Actions
media and 20 spots on radio and television.
The virtual platform also enabled visits to the
Biennial by groups of students from Curitiba
public schools to be scheduled online. In
addition to facilitating users of the service,
the system permitted organizers of the event
to have a better forecast of the number of
people coming for the visits conducted by
monitors, which totaled 3,427 students from
59 educational institutions.
Another major advantage offered by the virtual
system of the Biennial was the popular vote for
choosing the 2010 Highlight Products. The
online poll was conducted on the DesignBrasil
portal(www.designbrasil.org.br). Those interested
in participating filled out a registration form
which gave them the right to vote for only
one product in each of the twelve exhibits
that comprised the main exhibition, “Design,
Innovation and Sustainability”. The voting
apparatus was up for 30 days. Among the 253
products on display, 181 of them received votes
from 14 Brazilian states and other countries,
such as the Netherlands and Uruguay.
urbano: uma trajetória”, “it’s a small world”, “Memória da indústria: o caso CIMO”,
A plataforma
o sistema permitiu à organização do evento
do Produto Destaque 2010. A votação online
foi realizada a partir do portal DesignBrasil
(www.designbrasil.org.br).
ferramenta esteve disponível durante 30 dias.
Entre os 253 produtos em exposição, 181 deles
receberam votos que foram computados em 14
Estados brasileiros e também em outros países,
como Holanda e Uruguai.
