Brazilian Design Biennial
Education, one of the most noble of human activities, was a strong presence
at this edition of the Brazilian Design Biennial. Everything started with
preparation of the event’s monitors. Out of dozens of young people who applied
for the position, 43 were chosen to work as monitors. It was essential for all
of them to be design students. The content taught and the work to be done
providing guidance to the public during the Biennial’s 48 days represented
a valuable opportunity for personal growth, in addition to a professional
advantage these young people will take with them as they begin their careers.
Based on the presupposition that we can only truly value and love that which
we know, the Biennial’s organizing committee also invested in training 600
teachers in Curitiba’s public school system and SESI’s school (Social Services
for Industry). These teachers were given exclusive educational material about
the Biennial and even took part in two meetings where information about the
content as well as guidance regarding the activities to be carried out with
students was given.
The educational material was produced in accordance with the principles of
sustainability, seeking to minimize the use of raw materials. In addition, the
useful life of the self-sustaining boards – with images of several products and
suggestions of activities and themes to be discussed – was extended, since they
can be used later by more teachers.
After work done in the classroom, the students went on a visit to the Biennial.
The visits were guided by monitors and accompanied by the teachers, allowing
for the children and adolescents to absorb new information about the event’s
subject matter. They could see for themselves, in practice, the importance of
design and innovation in people’s lives and how much sustainability can and
should be present in production activities. Encouraged in the classroom by
teachers and instigated by the teaching material they received, students had
the opportunity to develop a new way of looking at the theme and visited the
exhibition with curiosity and a desire to learn.
monitores do evento.
As
temática do evento.
