ABSTRACT<br />

This work is an analytical critic to the pedagogical practice called Interdisciplinary<br />

through theme generation (Interdisciplinate, via Tema-Gera<strong>do</strong>r) developed by the<br />

“hope School” in São Paulo´s Municipal Primary School System. It analyze the work<br />

developed under Freire´s Administration in which a action research took place in<br />

order to collect data for the planning of the “new curriculum”. The data collection,<br />

<strong>do</strong>cumentation and the way research was process are placed in amplified lenses<br />

revealing a lack of engagement from the participants involved which difficulted a<br />

cultural sensible change in the curriculum. The study points out through a<br />

comparison, ways in which the ethnography research approach could be useful to<br />

better inform this type of data collecting; bringing more meaning for the participation<br />

from the individuals involved and for the research team. Finally, it argue that to<br />

interpret the pedagogical practice researchers and participants has to be involved in<br />

collaboration, mutual sheering of meaning, and effective commitment for change.<br />
