EVALUATION AND PERSPECTIVE OF FORESTRY SECTOR IN THE STATE OF PARÁ<br />
ABSTRACT<br />
This study aims to assess the status of the forestry sector, with regard to timber production<br />
(<strong>na</strong>tive and planted forest), but not wood extraction, emphasizing the social and economic importance<br />
of this activity for the state of Pará. In that sense, <strong>da</strong>ta was collected from forest businesses and<br />
several other studies covering the subject in the region. Based on these information, it was found that<br />
production, in the forest sector, has not decreased in the past few years, despite environmental and<br />
economic crisis which closed innumerous companies and caused the decline of a few others, favoring<br />
manufacturing of products with low aggregate inputs intended for the inter<strong>na</strong>l market. Such questioning<br />
has been discussed for the state of Pará that looks for solutions to solve these problems. However,<br />
things are moving slowly, due to lack of urgent incentives to modernize the industry in order to<br />
manufacture aggregate high-value products, bringing environmental, social and economic values to<br />
the state.<br />
