ABSTRACT:<br />
in spite of having very well-known rules that <strong>de</strong>fine how<br />
should be written those words which have been taken<br />
directly from the old Latin, words whose tonic syllable<br />
is usually indicated by graphic accents (e.g.: lápis, ônus,<br />
vírus, etc.), the cult <strong>Por</strong>tuguese language written in Brazil<br />
still does not treat likewise some Latin terms (although<br />
it should), even though they have been incorporated to<br />
the <strong>Por</strong>tuguese a long time ago (as campus, e.g.).<br />
