The government of the State of Tocantins has been able to account
for environment in public policies planning and management. Through the Ecological
and Economic Zoning Programme, considered our strategic point in order to make
it possible to go further into economic development with environmental protection
and conservation, SEPLAN has efficiently generated products that support Tocantins
land management.
Seeking to increase the list of products made available to society
and municipal, state and federal agencies through the Ecologic and Economic Zoning
Programme, I present now the work “Geology Sheet SB.23-V-C (Imperatriz)”, which
was obtained after financial efforts from the State Treasure, the G7 Pilot Programme
to conserve the Brazilian Rain Forest (PPG-7), through Environment Ministry and
the World Bank.
The study of Geology, done at low cost, had as main instruments
satellite imagery, SEPLAN´s data base and cartographic products from CPRM and
RADAMBRASIL, completed with field work. The main objective of this study was to
generate information that had enough quality and the necessary quantity to achieve
the Ecological and Economic Zoning of Bico do Papagaio. The geological units
were described as to understand the history of the geologic evolution of the
environment where the referred unit stands, the grade of rock cohesion and weathering
and information about the present use and economic geologic potential. Furthermost,
the present study supplies momentarily the gap of Programa Levantamentos
Geológicos Básicos do Brasil – Brazil´s Basic Geological Surveys Programme
surveys at scale 1:250.000, being a contribution given by this SEPLAN towards a
better understanding of natural resources of State of Tocantins.
