A Word from the Governor
My government, after a broad discussion with society, has defined as
one of its macro objectives in the 2004-2007 PPA (Pluriannual Plan) the increase of
the State’s output with sustainable development, having as basic guidelines the
reduction of regional inequalities, the promotion of opportunities to the Tocantins
people and the complement of the national level initiatives for the Legal Amazon
and the Araguaia-Tocantins corridor production and environmental sectors.
To increase production with sustainable development, among other
actions, we are setting up ecological-economic zoning and territorial management
plans for the various State regions. These actions allow the categorizing, mapping
and description of environmental conservation areas of strategic importance and of
the areas with better natural and socio-economic support capacity for carrying-out
the public and private activities and enterprises.
I’m glad to bring forth another product of the Ecological-Economic
Zoning and of the Tocantins State North Region Territorial Management Plan, and
confirm my commitment with the improvement of the region’s people quality of life,
centered on the feasibility of the activities and enterprises, in poverty reduction and
in the preservation of the water resources and biodiversity.
I fully endorse the use of the information of this booklet and am truly
confident that the Tocantins State is heading, with large steps, towards a new
stage of economic and social development, designed to ensure the best quality of
life to the next generations.
