ABSTRACT
This research involves false friends dictionaries of Spanish and
Portuguese. It proposes that the use of a false friend dictionary is a
didactic complementary tool useful for teaching the Spanish language in
general and for the formation of translators. Taking the review of the
Literature as a basis, a description of the false friends found in the
dictionaries analyzed in this research is made highlighting aspects
related to translation. Comparing the entries in four false friend
dictionaries, pairs of false friends are identified and then compared to
words present in the linguistic corpus of the Spanish Royal Academy,
CREA-RAE, in order to evaluate if the contexts of use presented in
these false friend dictionaries are adequately delimited. This comparison
has allowed us to have a more objective view of the dictionaries studied.
This part of the research, which was based on corpus consulting, helped
us to understand that a thoughtful observation of concordances can be an
important support serving as a means to complement the information
given in dictionaries and it may help lexicographers overcome problems
in the architecture of their reference works. It is important to highlight
that the research in this Master’s dissertation composes the reflections
developed around the research project entitled “Parameters for the
Elaboration of a Portuguese-Spanish False Friend Dictionary”
(DiFAPE) carried out at the Federal University of Santa Catarina-Brazil,
under the supervision of PhD Professor Adja Balbino de Amorim
Barbieri Durão, and that it intends to contribute to decisions to be made
by the research coordinators in relation to the maintenance or not of
certain entries that are included in the Portuguese-Spanish false friend
dictionary temporary lexicon (DiFAPE).
