Como imperativo, a saúde tem constituído uma complexa rede de relações
de poder-saber. Persuadidos da importância do investimento pessoal na busca
de uma vida considerada saudável, os sujeitos modificam suas condutas,
submetendo-se a um intrincado procedimento de normalização que extravasa
o âmbito biológico da vida, atuando sobre outros aspectos. Neste artigo,
analiso como Fernando de Azevedo articulou saúde, educação e moralidade
por meio da prática denominada ginástica escolar. Partindo da genealogia da
noção moderna de saúde e da sua importância para o controle e organização
do meio social, bem como para a produção de subjetividades, abordo o papel
conferido pelo autor àquela prática no processo de regeneração do povo e na
formação de uma nova nação brasileira. Neste sentido, infiro que, a partir de
uma visão biologicista de educação, Fernando de Azevedo procurou lançar um
investimento biopolítico sobre a população brasileira, apostando no vínculo
entre educação, biologia, política e moral.

As imperative, the health has been a complex network of relationships of power-knowledge,
impacting the subjects. Convinced of the importance of the
personal investment in pursuit of a life considered healthy, the individuals modify
their behaviors, submitting themselves to an intricate normalization procedure
that goes beyond the biological life, working on other aspects. In this
article, I analyze how Fernando de Azevedo articulated health, education, and
morality through the practice known as school gymnastics. From the genealogy
of the modern notion of health and its importance for the control and organization
of the social environment, as well as for the production of subjectivities, I
discuss the role given by the author to that practice in the process of regeneration
of the people and in the formation of a new Brazilian nation. In this sense,
I infer that, from a biological view of education, Fernando de Azevedo sought
to launch a biopolitical investment on the Brazilian population, focusing on the
relationship between education, biology, politics and morality.
