SUMMARY
THE MYO - TERAPIE ACTION IN PATIENTS WITH
JOINT “TEMPORO MANDIBULA JOINT” DISFUNCTION
I received in my office a patient sent by an Orthodontist due to “speech” problems.
I did an evaluation and a diagnosis concluding that she suffers from joint “Temporo
mandibula joint” Articulation Disfunction, blocking her “speech”.
I feel the need to study the joint “Temporo mandibula joint” Articulation (ATM) and
its disorders, in order to treat this case; howerver, I have faced some difficulties to
find appropriate literature, written by Phonologists, because this is a nonexplored
area.
This study aims at finding solutions for therapy of patients with joint “Temporo
mandibula joint” Disfunction (DTM), emphasizing that the treatment could be
realized in conjunction with other profissionals. The Phonologist acts on the
stomatognathic system, preparing the musculature to reach adequate breathing,
mastication, deglution and phonation patterns. He has to work closely with a
dental surgeon or oral-surgeon, in order to verify occlusive and ATM problems, a
physiotherapist and a psychologist, helping the patient in a wide vision.
