SUMMARY: The objective of this study is to analyze deeply the pathological aspects in the larynx, caused by the tobacco. Moreover, it intends to clarify to the professionals of the voice and similar professionals, the other decurrent alterations of the tobaccoism of the smoker and of close individuals. It is important to spread the idea that the best way to prevent illness caused by smoking is to quit smoking. The population should be aware of this fact as well. This publication is a scientific analysis of last the ten years, in which the authors develop reflections on the tobaccoism and its implications in the life of the individual. When verifying the relation between the larynx alterations and the tobaccoism, it can be observed that the most frequent patologys are: Chronic laryngitis, Edema of Reinke, Polyps and, in a more advanced term, Carcinoma. Precancerous patologys also exist, as the leucoplasics boards, that appear in the vocal folds and in the larynx. All the cited diseases present vocal riots, being able to be confused with masculine voices on the telephone. In the female sex the clinical alterations are more evident than in the masculine sex, therefore the existing hormonal cycle in the woman modifies all the organism, including the voice. The study analyzes the consequences of the tobacco in the larynx of individuals of different economic and cultural levels, comparatively. It also verifies which is the real effect of the tobacco on the second-hand smokers. Some methods to eliminate the habit of smoking in addicted people are suggested, aiming to assist those who need to abandon the vice, before some treatment. The speech patogy can act in the vocal therapy for the improvement of the quality of the voice. However, to stop smoking is essential for the attainment of satisfactory results.
