This dissertation seeks to identify, analyze and interpret the quotations of
Euripides’ text on Mário Cláudio’s Medea as an efficient drama process to
rebuild the tragic character and it has been divided into main sections: I. Medea
on stage; II. Euripides’ (re)quotations on Mário Cláudio’s Medea; II. Medea, a
failed actress.
In the first part, the author contextualizes Mário Cláudio’s play, retakes the
main topics of Medea’s character creation on the homonym Euripides’ tragedy.
In the second part, the author identifies the quotations of the euripidean play on
Mário’s Cláudio’s play and analyses this drama process on Mário Cláudio’s
play.
In the third part, the author intended to show how the (re)quotations of the
euripidean text underlie a mythicized recreation of Medea’s character.
This dissertation further includes a concise introduction and final thoughts,
bibliography, organized into both text editions and commentaries and critical
studies, as well as a general index.
