costs then it would amount to maximizing behaviour of the orthodox type". Por isso
HODGSON (idem) adverte:
Williamson has a choice. He can either accept or reject the assumption that
transaction cost minimization is assumed to be performed by a deliberative agent.
However, if he accepts this assumption he cannot simultaneously embrace the
concept of bounded rationality. If 'economizing on transaction costs' is costminimizing
behaviour by a calculating agent, then this is inconsistent with Simon's
concept.
Não obstante, WILLIAMSON (1993e, p. 111, apud PRATTEN, 1997, p. 794)
afirma que "Satisficing is cumbersome and we must ask whether the added cost (of non-
standard and more complicated modes of analysis) justify the benefit (realism of cognitive
assumptions). [...] [F]rom the negative verdict on the utility of the satisficing approach [...]
the answer would appear to be negative." 192 Mas se voltarmos um pouco na construção da
TCT, encontraremos WILLIAMSON (1981, p. 574, apud PRATTEN, 1997, p. 794) ainda
em sua visão conciliadora: "it [TCT] relies on economizing arguments (which disciplines
the analysis and appeals to maximizers) but substitutes comparative institutional for
optimizing procedures (which is more in the spirit of satisficing)". Se o tempo indica o
amadurecimento das idéias, conquanto não traga nenhum prejuízo às faculdades mentais,
temos então o pressuposto maximizador como posição solidificada por Williamson para a
TCT.
191 HODGSON (1988, p. 299) reforça seu argumento: "Whilst Williamson’s contribution to
postwar economic theory is of significant net value, it is marred by a terminological and analytical
imprecision and the use of confusing and sometimes obscurantist jargon".
WILLIAMSON (1987, p. 592, apud PRATTEN, 1997, p. 799) reafirma: "Studying man as he is
necessarily requires that behavioral assumptions be assessed not merely with reference to analytical
convenience - which is a leading reason why maximising assumptions play such a prominent role
in economics - but also with respect to their correspondence to reality. Implausible behavioral
assumptions are not a matter of indifference, much less merit, if studying human nature as we know
it is to be taken seriously".
