1902 Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company (3M) is
founded in Two Harbors, Minnesota, to mine what they
thought was corundum, a mineral ideal for making
sandpaper and grinding wheels. The mineral, however,
turned out to be a low-grade anorthosite. Sales of the
poor-quality mineral were weak, and the company
nearly failed -- but its founders persisted.
3M Three-M-ite Abrasives Cloth was 3M's first
"exclusive" product. With its flexibility and metal-cutting
superiority, it became a best seller with automakers and
repair shops.

1925 Richard Drew, a 3M lab assistant, noted that
painters were having trouble masking car parts.
He got an idea that led to the invention of masking
tape. The tape was a hit and the Scotch Tape
product line was born; so was 3M's growing
emphasis on product diversity
1929 3M formed a holding company in Europe with
eight other manufacturers, the Durex Corporation

Definições
Alfred North Whitehead Science and Modern World - 1925
Caráter progressivo do capitalismo
Inovação é o motor do sistema
Crítica aguda da visão convencional (neo
clássica) de equilíbrio.
A natureza evolutiva do sistema é decorrente da
inovação
A ordem capitalista é instável (não a economia)
Extecamp/Unicamp
A natureza evolutiva do sistema:
cria.
Então, qual é a definição:
Produzir : combinar materiais e forças
Inovar: produzir outras coisas, ou as mesmas
coisas de outra maneira, combinar diferentemente
materiais e forças, enfim, realizar novas
combinações
Nessa definição, a idéia de inovação não
comporta ajustes contínuos gerando mudanças
incrementais.
qualquer empresa
o motor fundamental é a concorrência.
Mudança Tecnológica X Crescimento Econômico
Kuznets : 1930
A Inovação tecnológica frequentemente cria indústrias
inteiramente novas, dedicadas à produção de novos
bens.
3M.
delegar responsabilidades e encorajar homens e mulheres a exercitarem
suas iniciativas. Isso requer considerável tolerância. Aqueles a quem
cometidos matam a iniciativa.
Processo criativo requer pessoas criativas
