GEOMORFOLOGIA - seplan - Governo do Estado do Tocantins

The government of the State of Tocantins has been able to account for
environment in public policies planning and management. Through the Ecological
and Economic Zoning Programme, considered the State´s strategic point in order to
make it possible to go further into economic development with environmental protection
and conservation, SEPLAN has efficiently generated products that support Tocantins
in its land management.
Seeking to increase the list of products made available to society and
municipal, state and federal agencies through the Ecologic and Economic Zoning
Programme, I present now the work “Geomorphology SB-22-Z-B (Xambioá)”, which
was obtained after financial efforts from the State Treasure, the G7 Pilot Programme
to conserve the Brazilian Rain Forest (PPG-7), through the Environment Ministry,
and the World Bank.
The study of geomorphology, done at low cost, had as main tools
satellite imagery, SEPLAN´s data base and cartographic products from
RADAMBRASIL, completed with field surveys. Over this information a methodology
to classity relief and characterize landscape based on its vulnerability to soil loss
was applied. This brought the definition of three Morpho-structural Domains, two
Geomorphological Regions and three Geomorphological Units. The main objective of
this study was to generate information that had enough quality and the necessary
quantity to achieve the Ecological and Economic Zoning of Bico do Papagaio.
Summarizing, the present study momentarily supplies the gap of
traditional surveys at scale 1:250.000, being a contribution given by this SEPLAN
towards a better understanding of the natural resources of State of Tocantins and
support to land management.
