HEARING AND VESTIBULAR COMPLAINTS DURING PREGNANCY.<br />
6.2 Summary<br />
PURPOSE: verify hearing and vestibular complainsts in pregnant women.<br />
METHODS: 82 pregnants participated on this study. For hearing and vestibular<br />
complaints, a questionnaire proposed by Castagno (1994) was performed. Also to<br />
compare results among gestational trimesters, pregnant were divided into 04 groups:<br />
Group 1: all pregnant, Group 2: first trimester of pregnancy; Group 3: second<br />
trimester of pregnancy and Group 4: third trimester of pregnancy. RESULTS: we<br />
could observe that tinnitus was the main auditive complaint (33%) having no<br />
difference among all groups. Tinnitus was present among 52,44% of all pregnant<br />
and mainly in the Group 2. According to symptoms related to dizziness, vertigo was<br />
the main auditive complaint in first trimester (22,72%), whereas instability (12,12%)<br />
and walking imbalance (12,12%) were more frequent in second trimester and<br />
instability (12,12%) and tendency to fall (11,11%) in the third trimester. Nausea was<br />
the main symptom associated to dizziness in pregnant, being more frequent in the<br />
first trimester of gestation. CONCLUSIONS: women during gestation present auditive<br />
and vestibular complaints, mainly dizziness and tinnitus.<br />
