Both Dyreskjøt and the Swedish genealogist Gabriel Angrep agree thatthe Kjerulf family originally came from Holstein, and that the firstof this line to step into the "light of history" was Anders Ulff. Wehave already told how he acquired the name Kjærulf. In Dyreskjøt'sbook we read that he "owned the Aslundgaard "fogdegaard" (the farmwhere the rural tax collector lived), the Biørum farm, and a lot ofproperty and farms in Kier township, as well as in Hvetbo and Hanntownships, and that he had a grey wolf in his coat of arms. He livedat the time of King Erik of Pomerania (1430), King Christoffer ofBavaria (1440) and King Christiern I (1450), a fact which isdocumented in old letters."For Klitgaard it remains an open question whether Anders Ulffbelonged to the nobility or not. The other two genealogists,Dyreskjøt and Gabriel Angrep believe that he was "introduced intoDanish nobility". The fact that he was a wealthy property owner andhad his own coat of arms would lead one to believe that he was anobleman, and the report that he was at the royal court and renderedan "exceptional service" to the king further confirms that he was aman of exalted station. It is said that he lived under three kings: Erik of Pomerania(1387-1442), Kristoffer of Bavaria (1442), and Kristern I(1450-1481). From this information one could surmise that he was bornabout 1380 and died about 1450.Dyreskjøt writes: "I have never been able to find the name of hiswife, but do know the names of three of his sons."The line continued with these three sons, but we shall only deal withone of them here.Children:2 i. Anders Andersen Kjærulf #1 = 2a-TCK-pg-9Second Generation---------------------------------------------2. Anders Andersen Kjærulf #1 Died 1450. = 2a-TCK-pg-9We have no knowledge of the year of his birth or death, nor do weknow the name of his spouse. In 1448 he was residing at the"fogdegård" (farm of the rural tax collector) in Vadum, Sogn, and wasthe tax collector in Kjær township. He is also mentioned in 1450 and1454. He had apparently died before 1458, for at that time ThordNilsen was the tax collector in Kjær township. Thus it appears thatwhen he died none of his sons was of legal age, since the office oftax collector in Kjær was connected to the Kjærulf family frommedieval times up to the end of the 17th century.Dyreskjøt contends that Anders Andersen Kjærulf #1 had a daughter whowas married at Vested in Aaby parish. Her name is not known. Thisdaughter had a son, Klement Andersen, who was born in 1484 and calledSkipper Klement. He was executed in 1536. Dyreskjøt writes that he "betrayed both himself and the Kjærulf family as a result of hisfailures in wartime".Anders Andersen Kjærulf's sons were Peder Andersen Kjærulf, JensAndersen Kjærulf and Anders Andersen Kjærulf. We shall follow theline of the youngest.Children:3 i. Peder Andersen Kjærulf4 ii. Jens Andersen Kjærulf5 iii. Anders Andersen Kjærulf #2 = 3d-TCK-pg-10Third Generation---------------------------------------------3. Peder Andersen Kjærulf.4. Jens Andersen Kjærulf.5. Anders Andersen Kjærulf #2 = 3d-TCK-pg-10In a reference to Anders Andersen Kjærulf #2 for the year 1470 Dyreskjøttells us that "he owned Aslund farm (residence of the tax collector)and a lot of property". He was married to Else Wogensdatter.Dyreskjøt writes: "They had several children, two sons and onedaughter." But Klitgaard believes that in addition to these they hadtwo more sons: Jens and Morten. The children were: 1. A daughter married in Gjetrup. 2. Jens Andersen
