I finally after a long year have quite a large amount of information - wehave tracked our Kjaerulf lineage back to Nibe a small village outside of Copenhagen and have relatives inAlborg up towards the NW portion of Denmark.My great grandfather was Peter Petersen who married Mette Kirstine Pedersen Kjaerulf. ( My greatgrandmother). My mother was a Peterson. They were on the same ship en route to the USA in April 1870.They married two years later. They had eight children. Mette Kirstine Kjaerulf was quite a mystery becauseshe intemittently went by the last name of her father which was Mortensen Kjaerulf, then she usedPedersen, and she used Kjaerulf. She traveled alone at 16 years old on a ship to the states -bringing hermother's Danish furniture with her. We could never figure this out until we learned her real mother had diedwhen she was 13 years old. She was confirmed at 14 years of age as was the Danish custom at the time.Her father subsequently remarred ( a Neilson woman) and apparently the two did not hit it off. She left twobrothers behind - one named Peter Mortensen ( Kjaerulf). She took her mothers belongings and headedacross the ocean. QUITE Literally amazing. We have found her parents, and her parents parents. So I amquite happy to share what I have learned. I think it might be of interest to a great many people.As you know, the patriarchal naming system caused us quite a concern in trying to verify who was who andwhich birth records, death records went to whom. Finally though, through the parishes and microfish atnumerous Family History Centers we have now tracked back to the late 1700's.I know you asked me for this information before, but we wanted to be absolutely certain that we werecorrect we had the right records.
