Lift up the battery compartment cover (a) asshown in Figure 1.2. Insert two fresh LR20 (D-size) batteries inthe battery compartment. Place the batteriesaccording to the embossed icon (b) inside ofthe compartment.Setting Up the LaserThe laser facilitates various set-ups, making it usefulfor several applications.MANUAL HEAD ROTATION (FIG. 1)The laser is designed with a protective alloy cagearound the rotary head (d) to prevent accidentaldamage from work site activities. You can stillaccess the rotary head and manually direct thebeam to establish or transfer a mark.WALL SET-UP (FIG. 2)The wall mount is used for mounting the laser to awall track to aid in drop ceiling installation and otherspecialty leveling projects.CAUTION: Before attaching the laserlevel to wall track or ceiling angle, besure that the track or angle is properlysecured.1. Place the laser on the mounting base (q)aligning the hole (z) on the bottom of the laserwith the hole (r) in the mounting base. Place rearrubber foot into the base mounting slot (s). Turnthe mounting knob (t) to secure the laser.2. With the wall mount measuring scale (u) facingyou, push the clamp lever (v) in to open theclamp jaws (w).3. Position the clamp jaws (w) around the walltrack or ceiling angle and release the clamplever (v) to close the clamp jaws on the track.Be sure that the wall mount is secure beforeproceeding.CAUTION: Always use a ceiling wirehanger or equivalent material, in additionto the wall mount clamp locking knob,to help secure the laser level whilemounting it to a wall. Thread the wirethrough the handle of the laser level.DO NOT thread the wire through theprotective metal cage. Additionally, screws may be used to fasten the wallmount directly to the wall as a back-up.A screw hole (x) is located at the top ofthe wall mount.4. The tool can be adjusted up and down to thedesired offset height for working. To changethe height, loosen the locking knob (y) locatedon the side of the wall mount to move thelaser level up and down to the desired height.Support the mounting base when adjusting theheight.5. Use the wall mount measuring scale (u) topinpoint your mark.NOTE: The DEWALT target card is marked at38 mm (1-1/2"), therefore, it may be easiestto set the offset of the laser to 38 mm (1-1/2")below the track.6. Once you have positioned the laser at thedesired height, tighten the locking knob (y) tomaintain this position.TRIPOD SET-UP (FIG. 3)1. Position the tripod securely and set it to thedesired height.2. Make sure that the top of the tripod is roughlylevel. The laser will self-level only if the top of thetripod is within ± 5˚ of level. If the laser is set uptoo far out of level, it will beep when it reachesthe limit of its leveling range. No damage will bedone to the laser, but it will not operate in an“out of level” condition.3. Secure the laser to the tripod by screwing thethreaded knob (aa) on the tripod into the femalethread (z) on the bottom of the laser.NOTE: Be sure that the tripod you are workingwith has a 5/8"–11 threaded screw to ensuresecure mounting.4. Turn the laser on and adjust the rotation speedand controls as desired.FLOOR SET-UP (FIG. 4, 5)The laser level can be positioned directly on thefloor for leveling and plumbing applications such asframing walls.1. Place the laser on a relatively smooth and levelsurface where it will not be disturbed.2. Position the laser for a level (fig. 5A) or plumb(fig. 5B) setting as shown.3. Turn the laser on and adjust the rotation speedand controls as desired.
