En GPS-løsning som har muligheten til å kunne bla i kartene er blant annet Trekker Breeze. I rapporten
kommer det frem at man kan merke steder på ruten hvor GPS-en har gitt en feilaktig instruks med hva man
faktisk skal gjøre på det aktuelle punktet (Ulland, 2010, s. 24).
I rapporten GPS TECHNOLOGY TO AID THE BLIND AND PARTIALLY SIGHTED IN COPENHAGEN, DENMARK,
blir muligheten til å kunne studere ruten på forhånd beskrevet som viktig blant flere av informantene i
undersøkelsen. Et av temaene som ble tatt opp i undersøkelsen, var muligheten til å kunne lage og laste
opp ruter fra egen PC til GPS-en. Fordelen med dette blir beskrevet i sitatet under.
This capability gives blind and partially sighted people the advantage of setting up their course
in the privacy of their homes, where they can take their time and if needed ask for help. The
focus group members stressed that they never leave their house to go to a new and unfamiliar
places without memorizing the route and the path which they will be taking first. By allowing
them to set the route on the GPS prior to the traveling it reinforces the path and gives them a
chance to learn it, thus adding to the overall sense of being prepared (Coverstone et al., 2007,
s. 53).
En annen funksjonalitet som omtales i rapporten er en såkalt "five nearest addresses locator". Resultatet fra
undersøkelsen viste til at personene behøvde mer hjelp til å finne fram til private boliger. Problemet med å
finne frem til private boliger blir beskrevet i sitatet under fra en informant som hadde erfaring med bruk av
GPS fra tidligere.
A lot of the time the numbering of the houses changes drastically from one side of the street to
another, and it can really throw you off when you’re looking for someone’s apartment. For
example, it is not unusual for the houses on the odd side of the street to be in the fifties, while
the even houses just across the street are in the thousands (Coverstone et al., 2007, s. 53).
Som en løsningen til problemet blir "five nearest addresses locator"-funksjonen foreslått, da de
hevder informasjon om de fem nærmeste adressene vil gjøre det enklere å finne fram til den ønskede
destinasjonen.
