Generell informasjon<br />

SAM5130 will provide an understanding of the role of religions in today´s world as a source of conflict and as a resource for<br />

reconciliation. It will focus on the use of the sacred scriptures in different religious traditions in situations of conflict, and on relevant<br />

ethical and theological perspectives. It will further give an introduction into perspectives from the social sciences, and present attempts<br />

at creating a common global ethics. The subject will be discussed in light of contemporary examples of conflicts and reconciliations<br />

processes.<br />

Studiekrav<br />

The student will<br />

- Write a book report up to 2,000 words from a limited part of the course syllabus. The topic of the report is selected in cooperation with<br />

the professor and is graded pass/fail.<br />

- Participate in the evaluation of the course<br />

Avsluttende vurdering<br />

To gain credit for the course SAM5130 the student must fulfill all the requirements and pass the exam. The exam is assessed with<br />

grades A-F.<br />

Mål og innhold<br />

The goal of this course is to understand the role of religion as a source of conflict and as a resource for reconciliation<br />

The students will demonstrate the following skills:<br />

- To demonstrate knowledge of conflict and violence as subject in the sacred scriptures of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and of the<br />

use of sacred scriptureand religious traditions in contemporary conflicts<br />

- To discuss the possibilities of different religious traditions to create tolerance and reconciliation<br />

- To understand and debate contemporary attempts at dialogue on global ethics across the borders of different religions and world<br />

views<br />

- To demonstrate knowledge of theories within peace and conflict research, in particular social psychology and sociology<br />
