Little has bcen known of the distribution in the inner paris of Rogaland. The
distribution map of Haftorn (1971) indicates a continuous distribution betwecn
Jæren and Hardangervidda. But thcre are, in fact, no breeding records from the
inner par& of Rogaland, with the exception of one, possibly two, localitics in the
NE corner of the county. These localities are fairly close to Hardangervidda.
The rnountainous arens of Rogaland provitle poor breeding habitat for the Golden
Plover. Over large arcas the rock is acidic resulting in a very sparse vegetation
(much rock is exposed). In the NE parts the rock is richer in lime, and, with a more
continuous vegetation cover, the conditions are more suitable for the Golden Plover.
The South Norwegian coastal population has traditionally been regardcd as ssp.
apricaria. As thc Jæren-population scerns to exhibit a great morphological variation
(alti/rons-like and apricaria-like individuals have been observed, as well as intermcdintcs)
the use of trinomen has becn omitted in this paper. A taxonomical study
has becn initiated.
