ABSTRACT
Summery
The physiotherapist and the hospital clown learning to work together meeting with
chronically ill children. What is their common experience in their effort to inspire joyful
play and exercise in children with chronic health problems?
Method
I have made three systematic e-mail interviews with one hospital clown and two
physiotherapists, the latter having long time experience in working together with hospital
clowns.
Results and discussion
The physiotherapists and the hospital clown agreed that successful cooperation required
the ability to separate their different roles and functions, to plan well the activities
beforehand and to keep open the possibilities for improvisation.
Conclusion
The interested physiotherapists will through working with the hospital clown, benefit in
their efforts to stimulate exercise in and physical treatment of chronically ill children, in
an atmosphere of play and laughter.
