Je hebt net geleerd dat je bezit kunt aangeven met een bezittelijk voornaamwoord.
Je kunt bezit ook aangeven met de bezits- ’s :
It is John ’s bike. Het is Johns fiets. Het is de fiets van John.
That is Laura ’s bag. Dat is Laura’s tas. Dat is de tas van Laura.
The cat’ s toy. De kat zijn speelgoed. Het speelgoed van de kat.
Zoals je ziet, schrijf je eerst een apostrof ( ’ ) en dan een s .
Soms eindigt een woord al op een – s. Als dat zo is, kijk je eerst of het enkelvoud of meervoud is.
• Bij woorden in het meervoud op –s schrijf je alleen een apostrof na die –s :
the students ’ luggage de bagage van de studenten
• Bij woorden in het enkelvoud op –s schrijf je ’s achter het woord :
the waitress ’s tips de fooien van de serveerster
