DE KUNST VAN HET ZITTEN<br />
Rope kan op zoveel manieren<br />
gebruikt worden als je fantasie<br />
je toelaat. Je kunt er in liggen,<br />
zitten, hangen en kinderen kunnen<br />
er eindeloos mee spelen. En<br />
natuurlijk kun je er ook gewoon<br />
een interessante vorm mee maken<br />
of aan de muur hangen. Rope is<br />
een open design object: het is wat<br />
je verbeelding je vertelt.<br />
Atelier Ief Spincemaille<br />
introduceert 4 nieuwe en unieke<br />
ontwerpen van Rope <strong>6M</strong>. Ze<br />
worden geproduceerd in een<br />
beperkte oplage, zijn ontstaan<br />
door een traditionele aanpak en<br />
onderzoek naar oude technieken,<br />
met de hand geweven en volledig<br />
gemaakt in België.<br />
Door een van de oudste uitvindingen<br />
die bestaat (een touw) te<br />
vergroten, heeft Atelier Ief<br />
Spincemaille een eenvoudig maar<br />
veelzijdig designobject gecreëerd.<br />
Rope herdefinieert het zitten.<br />
THE ART OF SITTING<br />
Rope can be used in as many ways<br />
as your imagination tells you. You<br />
can lie, sit, hang on it and children<br />
can play endlessly with it. And of<br />
course you can also just sculpt an<br />
interesting shape with it or hang it<br />
on the wall. Rope is an open design<br />
object: it is what your imagination<br />
tells you.<br />
Atelier Ief Spincemaille introduces<br />
four new and unique designs<br />
for Rope <strong>6M</strong>. These designs are<br />
produced in a limited edition,<br />
handwoven using a technique<br />
developed by Spincemaille on the<br />
basis of traditional weaving crafts,<br />
and fully made in Belgium.<br />
By enlarging one of the oldest<br />
inventions in existence (a rope),<br />
Atelier Ief Spincemaille has created<br />
a simple but versatile design<br />
object. With Rope <strong>6M</strong>., seating<br />
and sitting have been reinvented.

BIJZONDERE<br />
SAMENWERKINGEN<br />
Voor Rope <strong>6M</strong>. werkte Atelier<br />
Ief Spincemaille samen met<br />
textielontwerper Esther van<br />
Schuylenbergh aan 4 unieke<br />
ontwerpen. Esther Van<br />
Schuylenbergh is textielontwerper<br />
en textieldocent aan het KASK in<br />
Gent. Ze won een Textirama award<br />
in 2020 in de categorie ‘Concept’.<br />
Rope <strong>6M</strong>. wordt met de<br />
hand geweven in het atelier<br />
van Spincemaille. Hiervoor<br />
werd, in samenwerking met<br />
ingenieursbureau Comate<br />
Engineering & Design (Leuven,<br />
BE) de bestaande vlechtinstallatie<br />
die Spincemaille ontwierp verder<br />
ontwikkeld.<br />
Het weven van de webbing voor<br />
de Ropes gebeurt samen met de<br />
Belgische weverij Rubis (Izegem,<br />
BE) en Neckebroek Passementerie<br />
(Erpe-Mere, BE).<br />

COLLABORATIONS<br />
For Rope <strong>6M</strong>. Atelier Ief<br />
Spincemaille worked together<br />
with textile designer Esther van<br />
Schuylenbergh on four unique<br />
designs. Esther Van Schuylenbergh<br />
is a textile designer and textile<br />
teacher at KASK in Ghent. She<br />
won a Textirama award in 2020 in<br />
the category ‘Concept’.<br />
Rope <strong>6M</strong>. is woven by hand<br />
in Spincemaille’s workshop.<br />
For this purpose, the existing<br />
braiding installation designed<br />
by Spincemaille was further<br />
developed in collaboration<br />
with engineering firm Comate<br />
Engineering & Design (Leuven,<br />
BE).<br />
The weaving of the webbing for<br />
the Ropes is done together with<br />
the Belgian weaving mill Rubis<br />
(Izegem, BE) and Neckebroek<br />
Passementerie (Erpe-Mere, BE).

EEN REIZENDE <strong>ROPE</strong> VAN 60<br />
METER LANG<br />
In 2017 creëerde Ief Spincemaille<br />
het kunstwerk Rope: een blauw<br />
touw van 60 meter lang en<br />
30 cm breed. Omdat Rope<br />
disproportioneel groot gemaakt<br />
is, heeft het zijn functie van touw<br />
verloren. Atelier Ief Spincemaille<br />
reist met Rope de wereld rond<br />
op zoek naar nieuwe betekenis<br />
voor dit object. En dit door<br />
het tijdelijk te verbinden met<br />
een gemeenschap, plaats of<br />
gebeurtenis. Tijdens deze reizen<br />
schrijft Rope een journaal en<br />
vertelt ons zo iets over de mensen<br />
en dingen vanuit het perspectief<br />
van een touw dat te groot is voor<br />
deze wereld. Zo ontstaan er overal<br />
ter wereld waar Rope 60 aankomt,<br />
sociale contacten en interactie<br />
tussen mensen.<br />
A TRAVELLING <strong>ROPE</strong> OF 60<br />
METERS LONG<br />
In 2017, Ief Spincemaille created<br />
the artwork Rope: a blue rope<br />
60 meters long and 30 cm<br />
wide. Because Rope is made<br />
disproportionately large, it has<br />
lost its function as a rope. Atelier<br />
Ief Spincemaille travels with Rope<br />
around the world in search of<br />
new meaning for this object. And<br />
this by temporarily connecting it<br />
to a community, place or event.<br />
During these journeys Rope writes<br />
a journal and tells us something<br />
about the people and things from<br />
the perspective of a rope that is<br />
too big for this world. In this way,<br />
all over the world where Rope<br />
60 arrives, social contacts and<br />
interaction between people are<br />
created.
