through the casino: everybody is
there to have a good time. Training
for it, however, I have not been this
sore in my entire life. When I started
working out, I was sore for about
three days. I could hardly move. I’m
really challenging myself with the
choreography. Also, I have a vocal
coach that I work with weekly and
then I have training rehearsals 3-4
hours a day. Whenever I do a show,
I’m really keen on making it the best
I can. I love to dance and perform,
but because it’s Vegas I want to do
something different. It’s the perfect
place to take it to the next level.
What’s the secret to your
excellent shape?
I love doing yoga and I have two
separate trainers that I work with.
I don’t like to do the same thing all
the time, I like to change it up so it
stays fun and interesting, but my main
ritual is yoga.
Do you find it hard to still
bring sexuality to your
performances?
I know it’s a part of what I do and it’s
kind of my job to bring sexuality to
the table, but sometimes I feel silly
about it. Also, I’ve had two boys, so
I don’t always feel comfortable in a
swimsuit, for instance, because things
are a little different. (laughs)
Will your boys be
performing in the future?
They do like the attention, so I think
they might be a little interested in
the limelight, but we’re taking baby
steps at this point. I have to admit
that they’re little comedians though.
My oldest is more likely to be onstage,
Jayden is a little more on the shy side.
How do you look back on
where you came from to
where you are today?
It is still kind of like a dream. I’m from
a small town and I wasn’t expecting
anything. When it happened, it was
kind of surreal. I got so busy traveling
that I was oblivious to it all, all the
fame. I didn’t even realize what was
happening. It was like a dream that I
never woke up from, but I have to say
that life has been pretty spectacular
overall.
What has been your
favorite hit?
I really like ‘Toxic’.
Your career up to now has
been quite tumultuous, to
say the least. Was it hard to
remain sane?
It’s important to have a group of
people around you who can keep you
down to earth. It’s a mind-altering
experience when you become a pop
star at such a young age. Some people
are made for it and some people
aren’t. If you keep good friends
around you and stay grounded, you’ll
be okay.
What’s your take on the
Miley Cyrus criticism?
I think anytime you do a performance
that is that memorable, you’re going
to have criticism. I think she’s doing
her thing and being herself, so I give
props to her.
Do you still get nervous
about presenting a new
album or a new show?
Yes. It’s really nerve-wracking,
because you spend so much time on
it, and you’ve been really dedicated
to the album or show. It’s like my
baby coming to life. This album and
the show will be very different to all
my previous ones. The album’s very
moody and electric and different.
probably. But if you got out there
with Andre Agassi or one of those
guys, if he was feeling gentle or
gracious, he could lob that ball to
you and probably keep you going
for hours. The greats like Matthew
are like that too. They have a lot of
control; they can send that ball to you
and make things really easy for you.
He was great, so generous, so kind, he
had been working on this project for
a long time and he opened the door
for me. That was really wonderful,
since I hadn’t been on set for almost
six years.
